Machines | Why straight pipe exhaust is better
videos | at work | information | view | construction
We cut open a stock muffler to see the restrictors. Then we throw the boxes in the bin and run a straight pipe exhaust.

Use gloves next time guys. Also this restriction is a value the engineers calculated with when designed the whole car, the engine, drivetrain, etc... There is always something you pay with for the better flow (and altering the original design of the system which is engineered sophisticatedly), like you lose some low rpm torque, and of course your car will be louder.

Seeing the inside of this muffler made me cry.
-
Just straight piped my Hyundai Accent! Video on my channel ;p
-
A lot of flow restriction ...

I always tell people that straight-through mufflers (like Magnaflow) are a much better design and flow much better than chambered & baffled mufflers (like Flowmaster). Flow tests have shown this to be true.

hi, love the vid, big fan of the polo 1.4 tdi you did, so much so i bought one myself. no thinking of having a mufflerectomy, but a bit weary hat itll fail MOT (for why I have no explanation). Just want a definitive answer yes or no (legal or not) so I can book to have the thing done or not. thanks

straight pipe might be better flowing than stock, but straight through mufflers provide the best flow.
This explains what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWTARjxiqlo&t=19m10s Comes to my point at around 21 minutes (2 minutes in the link) -
I also forgot to add, if a cop pulls you over you can get a fine, and a fix it fine. Plus, if you use just a straight pipe, you lose horse power dude to back firer which meanings you motor is sucking air in the opposite direction slowly damaging the pistons. But if you want to be an idiot all power to you :P

Very bad example compared to flowmasters, plus he didn't use gloves when using a grinder, what an idiot and full of crap.
-
You know also, straight pipes sound absolutely amazing.
-
So, why is straight pipe better?
-
Great Video. I never knew that!!
-
my idea is to take everything out the muffler and put a pipe in, looks standard, more flo
-
Interesting video, but please watch your fingers when working with heavy equipment and use some protection.
-
i can make a homade muffler that will have better flow that that thing jesus
