Learn on Monday, wrench smarter on Sunday. Introducing a NEW series on /DRIVE, aimed at educating you to build a faster, better, more reliable car: /ENGINEERED. We want to empower our fellow enthusiasts to know more, and do more, by learning from some of the best engineers in the game. Things that don't impress me about the LS.....main cap fit/location (unless it's an LS7/9 with dowel fit.) The oiling system is atrocious with too many sharp bends and restrictions. Lots of weighty bolts to hold covers on.....seems GM knew there would be some warranty work involved on the LS motors and went out of their way to make re-useable gaskets and certainly didn't skimp on bolts to hold those covers on. The LS has great cylinder head flow and for the drag strip crowd serves their purpose well, if you doing 24HR endurance racing....your going to need some expensive parts to keep an LS alive!

I have never seen an engine fail because it was a 2 bolt main! If it takes 4 or 6 bolts on each main cap to keep the crankshaft in the block then it was junk to begin with! It is what it is!

Great video, really informative.

These engines are a direct copy of the Ford 351 Windsor and the legendary Ford 427 FE.

Finally a man who knows what he is talking about with engine building. I understood EVERY bit of terminology he spoke of ALOT of people especially the aftermarket addicts could learn a thing or two. The LS is a great motor and I'm a dodge lover. But chevy got that engine right.

You misspelled Aluminium ;)

nissan make excellent v8s but people are not aware. its funny to see an engine that was not ment for performance push 500+hp with a turbo and tune. no head work stock internals out of a 4.5 liter. thats very impressive

I could listen to this guy talk about engines all day . verry smart. wonder if he's hiring hahah

Good video, but I would have preferred some supporting visuals to go along with it. Like where on a piston skirt it comes out of the block when talking about long stroke cranks, or dyno sheets when talking about intakes

Sexy ass engine...

Rate the instant torque over the vg30. Do miss boost occasionally tho. But overall, the lighter front end and slightly better front to rear balance my car now has, the Z feels grand.
