That is right for a commercial airplanes that travel at speed near mach 1 but why the fighters designed to traver at supersonic speed have the wings angled backwards? Is it posible to fly at mach 2 and have subsonic speed over the wing?
-
Huh, I've only ever heard of this being used for passive yaw stability
-
Me262, anyone?
-
Had to give it a thumb down. Lots of bad history in this by focusing on US aviation and skipping the German contributions pre- P.1101. The ME-262 and ME163 used swept wings long before the P-38 problem.
-
It is fascinating to read all the different explanations of 'lift'. So it is not clear-cut, by any means.
-
The X1 flew faster than the X5. Also, the wing shape on the F-104 Starfighter is the same as the Bell X1. What does this say about swept wing design?
-
This is incorrect. Old planes had straight wings but as wings got used more they got pushed back more and more until today.
-
Got WAY too many videos on airplanes. I mean, I love them, they're great but a little more diversity would be amazing!
-
How did you manage to make this video without mentioning the Me-262, which had it's maiden flight in effing 1942?. I'm impressed, but not in the good way.
-
bloody natzis, didnt give credit to bloody yankeys for everything they stole from bloody natzis
-
What is the benefit of having forward angled wings on the airplane (compared to backward)? For example - Russian SU-47.
-
Please do "Why are airplane wings angled forwards??" (sukhoi su-47)

Great Work man!!
I love your way of laying out the secrets of the craft in such a plain and smooth way, ( I am a fellow Aerospace Engineer), and currently I do teach in an Aviation Academy. I really want you to make a video about the Variable Camber concept, which is achieved in the B-787 through a VCTU (Variable Camber Trim Unit)
Thank you. -
SepErate ? no way sepArate. Get a spell check.
-
They saw naruto's hand while running and realised that they could angle the airplanes wings backwards to go faster (Aero dynamically).
-
Hey!! for subsonic aircraft swept back wings are to increase roll stability...
-
Quite simply the best explanation of the swept wing which I have ever heard! Many thanks for this.
-
You need to spend more time in these videos talking about the disadvantages as well as the advantages. Like, if more wind is being diverted along the wing, then less is passing over the wing and providing thrust, yes? This is the kind of thing that should have been mentioned.

captured german prototype? you mean stolen german prototype
