What's the best AWD vehicle? What all wheel drive systems are best? How do differentials impact the AWD system? This video looks at open differentials, locked differentials, limited slip differentials, and torque vectoring differentials to determine the advantages of each in various situations. Audi's Quattro and Rimac's Torque Vectoring 👌👌

Subarus seem to be a top seller in places with a lot of snow.

Good video thanks for posting. I have always liked the Acura SH AWD.

I noticed you didn't mention the system from the Ferrari FF. Obviously it's a limited slip, but I think it's pretty cool how there's no transfer case.

Please answer me!
You have awd car (all diffs are open simple system) front (or rear) wheels are lifted of the ground with jack stands. Because of open center diff it should spin front wheels and be in place, but rear wheels turn and car goes of. Why it doesn't spin only front tires because of open center diff? -
Man, this guy is an un-explainer.

"You're probably falling off a cliff (which is unfortunate)..."

Quattro

Very good information! How can a buyer determine what type AWD system he or she has? Manufacturers like to cloud the definition.
-
Front wheel drive with snow tires is better than AWD with all season tires. End of story.

I've got a 2017 2.5i Legacy. I wonder, does it have a limited slip diff, or just open diffs with torque vectored braking?

falling off a cliff at this point which is unfortunate lol

I used to drive the Mitsubishi Lancer 4WD Wagon (estate car) for the EU market (year of production was 1987). The reason why I am mentioning so old car is the fact it performed amazingly superior in driving uphill through deep snow or among ice, comparing to other AWD cars, especially SUVs (which are too heavy). Could you tell me anything more about the system it used (which wheels were running). My info are rather limited (the car had a button for locking central differential, and I think it was viscous LSD). It was so good car for harsh conditions, but quite old and beyond repair. I think the most of modern cars could not do things I did with old Mitsubishi. That is why I would like what was the catch.

I've always like LSDs in my AWD and lockers in my 4WD vehicles.

Subaru all wheel drive is better than Audi
-
You have all the makings of a great weather man :)

Can you talk about Haldex AWD system? Thank you

On heavy truck applications, in addition to the differential lock out between the two drive axles, there is also an option whereby there is a intra axle lock out feature for both axles. This means all eight tires will be turning if the engine is running and the transmission is in gear.

great description lol ahaghah

I'm considering a quattro; I hear a lot of issues around maintenance but get the impression that it is more to do with maintenance than design. Would you agree? And is Audi's quattro better than say Subaru's alternative?
