Enemy soldiers attacked observation posts on the building. They poured in fire as a diversion, while a dump truck packed with explosives sped towards the structure. The tactic failed. The GIs (from 2-69th Armor of the 3rd Infantry Division) shot up the truck, which exploded in a massive ball of orange flame. Concussions all around, but no Americans were seriously hurt. To look at the hotel now, though, it seems like one good hard breath would knock it over."

I was also there at this time. 1/30 INF Bravo. 2/69 was definitely at OP Hotel then. I was up on the graveyard op at the time it hit!

Koball is right this attack was on OP Hotel Blue platoon Abel company 2/69 AR, I was in Red Platoon at the time we QRF'ed out there about 10 minutes after the attack. And spent the next week + rebuilding the OP. All total I think we carried about 2000 sand bags up to the top floor. Anyone who says different was not in Ramadi at the time.

I was in Ramadi and that unit was Able 2-69. So his facts are totally correct. The USMC 3-7 had the west side of the city. 2-69 had the east side. So shut it.

3/8 owned that city, and it was the Marines from 3/8 who shot up that SVBIED. Please get your facts correct.

I was at combat outpost, and did many shifts at OP Hotel. We transferred out 08-2005. Barely missed this one. Good thing the new unit was on their game! And good things those new blast walls were put up shortly before that attack!
