Thanks man. Very good movie.

Hi Daniel. I liked your video. I'm diagnosing an intermittent headlights failure on a 1994 Honda Prelude. The headlights turn off when the car is in operation. If I find adequate power to the headlights and related grounds are okay, is it theoretically possible that the coil or the contact within the relay is failing? My thoughts are the coil or contact may be worn (or overheating) from years of operation. Thank you in advance if you can send any input.

so relays are to basically use low voltage to be able to allow a higher voltage run through it safer?
-
Where have you been all my life!!!!! This is hands down the best explained relay video I've ever seen!!!!!! Thank you for taking the time to explain it!!
-
Thanks for the thoughts you have shared here.

thank you so much

Why do you say a small amount of current can switch a large amount of current??

Good job.

This was very helpful as I've never used a relay and I'm trying to use one to wire and LED strip to function with the door open/close without just tapping into the dome lights. It's a little different because my negative coil would be tapped to a ground that isn't active when the door is open I need to use 87a as my switch on so to speak and 87 isn't needed at all - not sure if this is possible. I'm making this way harder than I need I'm sure but I'm determined to figure this out..if it's even possible the way I want to do it.

awesome.
im trying to create a gate lock using a 12v reversing polarity motor and an electro magnetic lock with a 5 pin relay.
do i need to install a diode in the system? or just figure out which wire causes the gate to open (+) and wire it accordingly?
any help would be awesome -
Sir, my question is that I have a auxiliary fog lights that I like to install on my Sedona 2015 but I wonder if will be ok if I splice into the wires from the existing fog lights????? Thank you

hi Daniel I have a 83 Jag xj6 , the other day petrol pump stopped operating at the start up.... I've by passed it to get home used live wire to get it working... now upon inspecting responsible relay it , I've noticed there isn't any coil winding at all just a sort of printed circuit with resistors on it....s that what they call "diode pack" ? anyway now this "relay" is working for now and so is my fuel pump... could you tell me how this kind of relay works ?

Sir, my preheat glowplug relay gives only 9-9.5v to the glow plugs, but on glow plugs is writen 11v, (i tested for resistance and found 1 dead plug, changed all, bought new battery) and when i try cold start after glow plug signal it cranks a lot, but if i wait for 2sec. before relay turns off preheat and try to crank the car it starts right away.
Now, my question is, does it relay is weakning from years of use( 10 years), or its normal to emmit voltage 9-9.5v to glow plugs?
Thank you in advance you are a great teacher! -
hello sir i have a car that randomly hasn't been starting specially when its cold it cranks but wont start i have narrowed it down to it being the ecm relay because i got a code for it saying low voltage on that relay, so as you might know intermittent problems are hard to reproduce, so i remove the relay same think happens the car don't start i put it back in and it starts so now i know my problem is right there, but my question is i have tested the relay with a dvom the relay closes when i energize it and it has continuity' so that confuses me alot i guess it means the relay is good, i would like to know maybe when its cold the relay sticks and don't close because when this happens if i keep trying it after 4-5 times the car starts i hope you understand what i'm trying to ask thank you in advance.

You are brilliant!! That's the art of teaching. I now feel confident to take on wiring challenges on my car. Recently bought and installed a "coming home leaving home module" on my car, and had a problem with the dimness of my lights when unlocking/ locking the vehicle. I even resorted to using LEDs on the fog lights. But now I know the problem was with my wiring - I need to run the module through the car's headlight relays and not directly to the lights. And after watching your video (although you used the horn as an example), I now know how to rewire the module. Thanks a lot

Amazing video. Sadly I just saw it now

Albert Einstein--- eat your heart out, tesla invented this but it's now been mastered by the best...... Great video great graphics and knowledge, enjoyed the video a ton but don't know anything on what u said about coils, but wish I could pick your brain for a day..... And btw- great video for the guys who know what's been said here..... Just wish I knew some or even a littl bit, on installing a relay like u showed but with a switch to push button it, I think I am looking for a children's video on step by step .....lol

loved your video man fast and 2 the point.

I do NOT know what to say. I am in level 1 automotive electrical, just finished lesson on relays - entire 40 minutes spent of class time on relay. Did not understand it in detail as it was not explained in detail; therefore, I googled. YOU, in 12:37 min. explained it so well and far and beyond better than my instructor, that I feel concerned with the rest of the remaining class. Excellent! Thank you! Would the manual you mentioned at the end of the video help me in my electrical automotive education? should I mention your video for the class to see or am a risking retaliation form instructor?
