Reduce the risk with a used machine purchase Used Excavator Inspection Checklist In the case you intend to purchase a used excavator and the machine is sold without warranty it is strongly recommended to perform a qualified inspection. The seller of used machinery will take some effort to make the machine good looking. Two hours paint shop and 1 can of paint is cheaper than most machine repairs and make a machine looking tidy. Therefore we have specialized ourselves in inspecting used machinery. This way we can help our clients to find a good machine for the money they pay. An excavator inspection starts with check-up for oil and coolant level. At the same moment the condition of oil and coolant is being approved if there is no water in oil and no oil in the coling system. We continue in the cab. While engine and hydraulic system is warming up we approve windows, switches, wipers, seat, doors and ROPS structure. We return to engine for blow-by check and check if there is compression in radiator. Next step is check for external damages such as dents, cracks, leaks and missing parts. All hydraulic cylinders will be approved for scratches, damages and leaks. Meanwhile the engine and hydraulics have been warmed up. Now it is time for a performance check on engine and hydraulic system. We perform a stall test if possible. This is followed by estimation of play in all boom-, stick- and bucket pins. Hydraulic couplers and outriggers on wheeled excavators will be tested. Next is estimation of remaining life time for tires or undercarriages. Finally a Mevas excavator inspection checklist contains some information about repair recommendations and if required about estimated repair cost. An inspection by Mevas costs approximately 500-650 Euro. The exact price depends on machine location. With the inspection report you can usually claim some repairs or a price discount. This way the equipment inspection prior delivery is paying itself. We cannot describe here al details of our inspection procedure. If there is doubt about machine quality and performance we can deeper into machine details. We can measure swing bearing play, we can measure engine blow-by and we can measure undercarriages for exact life estimation. Special performance tests can be performed and on request we can take oil samples and send them for analysis to a laboratory. On Caterpillar excavators we can read the internal computer ECM with our Electronic Technician and provide a so called PSR. On Volvo excavators we can read and print the machine history in the so called Matris-Report. Mevas is specialized in Heavy Equipment Inspections including wheel excavators, tracked excavators, hydraulic excavators, demolition excavators and material handling machines. So far we have inspected used excavators of Caterpillar, Volvo, Komatsu, Hitachi, New-Holland Kobelco, Hyundai, Atlas, Terex, Schaeff, Liebherr, CASE, JCB, Doosan, Daewoo, O&K, Peljob, Samsung, Yanmar, Takeuchi and some other brands.
