by John Madewell An employee at an Ooltewah heavy equipment attachment parts manufacturer was killed in an incident early Wednesday morning.It happened at Paladin, which is located at 8822 Apison Pike.Paladin said in a released statement that the employee was killed instantly while moving a steel panel from one station to the other.In that same statement, management said, Paladin and all of its employees are deeply saddened by this tragic event and our condolences go out to the team member's family, friends and fellow work associates.NewsChannel 9 has learned that the victim was 26-year-old James McManus.Paladin has notified TOSHA as required by law. NewsChannel 9 contacted TOSHA to find out what is next. Public Information spokesperson Jennifer Farrar said, We will do an investigation of the facility. And that could take up to six months to complete the investigation. And as part of the investigation we'll do things such as take measurements, interview employees, talk about the workday, take pictures and get witness statements.Paladin continued in its statement, Central to Paladin's operational focus is safety and the company is doing everything possible to identify the root cause of this incident in order to prevent the possibility of recurrence.In 2009, when Paladin was known as C P Enterprises, TOSHA cited the company with 13 violations it deemed as serious. Most related to respiratory protection as well as spray finishing using flammable and combustible materials.Fines totaled almost $9,000.
