It's all about being grateful. There's so many things you will grow to take for granted, but if you remain grateful, you will be happy wherever you are. Even Swift, after moving onto other companies, I missed the way their shops were, all the large terminals, sometimes I could get repairs right away at night, sometimes it would be a wait, but some companies will keep you running without repairs at all until your B service and I never had to wait with Swift. I don't know how things are now, but I'm looking into going back to them because it's not any better out there even if they pay more per mile. I did nothing but go to Chicago once I changed companies, all hazmat loads were short. They were always long at Swift. I never had a problem with time off, or getting restarts. You guys might not realize what you DO have before it's gone. Be grateful and appreciate it all. That's all I can say :)

3000 miles a week. See places youve never been to. Travel. And make 30k a year. Yeah, in a perfect world. All this BS they give you is just that, BULLSHIT. That is the life of a company driver. All these cheap freight companies is just what it says. Dont think for one minute you can get rich out here. You can be well off though. Do your year at a cheap freight company, thats if you last that long, and go on to better companies. They are out there. Cheap freight was intended for a private buisness to invest a few million bucks and return with a mega amount of millions in one year. They will lie like no tomorrow and pay cheap wages, not only to drivers but to the whole company. Its easy to invest in 3000 trucks and make a boat load of money. Problem is, each truck runs at an average of 1.36 cpm. after paying everything and everyone involved, owners make 0.10 to 0.15 cpm. Not bad if you have 3000 trucks. That screws us Owner Ops too because the industry expects us to do that also. If my truck dont make 6.00 bucks per mile, it dont move. I spent many years getting to a level to do that. As for company drivers, dont sweat the horseshit. Cheap frieght companies are like Mc Donalds. It was meant to be used to get started then move on. If you find yourself 5 years down the road pulling cheap freight still, then that is your own fault unless you enjoy 500 bucks bring home a week. You must use it for what it was intended for. Look at the whole industry. What is making investments onto other industries and cashing in? Wind Energy, LTL, Expediting and many others. Choose wisely and go forwards. I chose Wind Energy and my truck and trailer brings home a net of 125k a year. Thats per truck. My best year was GROSS of 415k. That is what I chose to do. It dont come overnight but with determination and LEARNING everything since my 15 year driving career started, this is where im at. If your aggravated with what you are doing then its time to move on. LEARNING EVERYTHING is the key. Choice is the door. This is just my point of view and remember, you stop learning and that is where you stay. I hope this comment helps some of you. Most drivers were not keant to be but to some, the driving industry has a lot to offer.

..
So, is it common in America for drivers to be paid by milage? I've been trucking in the UK for 2 yrs or so and vast majority here works on hourly rates.
..
Reason for it may be close proximity of pick-up and delivery points (my avg daily milage is just above 300 miles - I'd do really bad with that in States, wouldn't I? lol) -
good vid

Glynn Lewis: I drove OTORfor over 30 years. If you want to be home every night , get job. OTR trucking is rough in many ways. But if you like variety and travel and other things, it is a wonderful career. Keep. them trucks rolling, we need you.
