Machines | Trailer Tires, ST Tires vs LT Tires vs Passenger Car Tires ~ The Right Tires for your Trailer
videos | at work | information | view | construction
This is the 1st installment in our 3 part series on trailer tire selection, care and maintenance. Passenger car tires achieve comfort in part by making the sidewalls of the tires softer, allowing the sidewalls to flex. Many trailers (especially enclosed cargo trailers and car haulers) have higher centers of gravity than the typical tow vehicle and sidewall flexing in this case can lead to increased trailer sway. The stiffer sidewalls and higher inflation pressures on ST (Special Trailer) tires helps to reduce trailer sway. Thank you so ,much for the info. This was what i needed before i went shopping for a trailer tire.I wish you had recommendation of certain brands or some comparison in various brands.
-
Well done, sir. Thank you for the info!

30 seconds into this video I said "He's from around here". Well, not Johnston County, but only two and a half hours away. Nice explanation, by the way.
-
Thank you for explaining all that sidewall information. I just bought 2 trailer tires so I know now what I'm looking at. I slacked on my last set with air pressure and I see what happens when you don't have it at correct pressure.
-
You can't put a P rated tire on a LT.

Thanks for the tire info. It has really cleared up several things for me. I Just bought a 25' used travel trailer. Took it out to the lake for a 3-day campout to look for bugs...not those bugs, there were plenty of those Lol!
Made it back home and park it in my driveway before taking it to a storage lot. Three days later one tire went flat and the other one
blew up with separation of the threads... all this with the trailer just sitting there! What surprised me was the threads on all the tires were good. The tires were St 20575R15. Upon a closer look at the tires, I saw where the rubber was starting to crack and checking the dates on those tires I found out that some of them were made years ago. Learned a valuable lesson today. -
Good information. Thanks.

What brand of ST tire do you recommend? What brand of ST tire do you sell the most?
-
THANK YOU, for a very informative tech talk; I had no idea trailer tires were so much different from pasenger/light truck tire
-
I do my own tire repair. after watching a ton a videos a couple people said if there is a red dot or a yellow or a "v" marked on the side wall you should line up the valve stem with it. is this true? thanks
-
So why can't you use trailer tires on a light truck, seams the truck would benefit from all the upgrades, People are constantly over loading their trucks.
-
Good information, thanks
-
Over all I learn something new today. Now when I go get my next set of trailer tires and that kid tries to sell me them car or truck tires I will know better. Such scammers out there today.. Everyone is trying to make a dollar and sell you something thats not right..
-
What are your views on Taskmaster ST tires?
thanks -
Good Job! I appreciate the quality info.

A trailer tire is designed for a trailer, a light truck tire is designed for a light truck and SUV, a passenger tire is designed for a passenger car and some smaller SUV's. The three do not mix. A trailer tire does not have the thread for the surface grip, nor is it made to withstand the dynamics of a vehicle in a turning motion, it is made to be rolling along under a trailer. Using trailer tires on a vehicle is just plain dangerous. The tire and auto industry spend roughly a billion dollars a year testing tires, load capacities, wear, blowouts you name it. I'll trust what Goodyear has to say over my tire guy any day of the week.
