Weather it's a Spitfire or Hurricane, they did their job at the time when it was needed & the Spitfire is still the sexiest damn aircraft in history if you ask me.

Does everything these days have to be some sort of 'ism?' No one person made this design change and the idea that one person did is both disingenuous and pandering. You don't mention that the designer of the plane was a man/men. Or that the designer of the engine was a man/men. Or that the designer of the guns was a man/men. Or that the designer of the BMW fuel injection system was a man/men. Only that someone who fixed a problem was a women.

Bob Tuck addressed this in Fly for Your Life, along with the problems with the early Tiffie's exhaust system later on in the war. Nice explanation though. Nice bit of history at any rate.

Great video! The constant rivalry with the RAF and the Luftwaffe in performing aircraft is an interesting one.

Bigger flaw for all British fighters was using .303 machine guns, because they were way too weak a weapon and often failed to shoot down aircraft (Germans armoured their aircraft another flaw, UK planes didn't have armour until later)
Should have used American .50 cal Browning machine gun, or earlier acceptance of 20mm cannon (which was what was actually required and when so armed made huge improvement in fights) -
this problem was not unique to early spitfires. almost all early ww2 fighters on both sides suffered from loss of even engine fuel supply in negative g forces.

So we start a vid on the Spitfire complete with the voiceover repeating the word Spitfire repeated numerous times, yet the vid is of a Hurricane.
I thought only the Daily Mail was incompetent enough to do tis sort of thing. Hilariously, gloriously, epicly inept!

This problem was fixed very quickly, and happened to be a problem most early-war planes suffered, the spitfires real problem was it's weak wings and low top-speed.

So since this was such a significant problem, why wasn't it discovered in test flights before these were mass produced?

If someone know or find the diference betwene mechanical injectors and supercharged carburetor i be very glad.
Cant find nothing on the internet so has the supercharged carburetor more power or it was just cheaper, easy to troubleshoot and repair that MFI -
All gasoline engines have negative G problems. All Carbureted engines have neg. G problems. Close formation flying caused most of these problems. A wingover dive uses piloting to avoid negative G problems. Tactics create problems that are otherwise avoidable.. Pilot training and tactics adjust..

The Hurricane and the Spit had the same problem, lack of forethought on the part of the engine designers. They both had the same mechanical flaw, use of a carburetor, the Me-109 had fuel injection removing this problem.
