I had the same pair in my old house!
It was from c.1989. Our previous owner who moved in in around 1990 told us they moved in with this pair. We never replaced it, but once the dryer won't heat so we called someone to fix it, and clean the vent. But it was so high quality, even though it is 30 years old it is still working! I don't know about the new owners, they may have replaced them.
Our appliance except the dishwasher (I think it was maybe a kenmore or maytag), had been replaced since it was really loud, and rinse aid dispenser doesn't work.
Other than that, we also had a maytag refrigerator, which that was newer than the laundry machines.
Yes it fills really slowly, and I like the sound of the scrub/wash cycle. -
i used to have old kenmore with direct drive but now i got speed queen
-
i put white vinegar on fabric softener dispenser too!
-
It's started to spin.
-
Why did he put towels in a maytag washing machine?
-
These were the last of the decent Maytags, around '95 washers all started getting cheaper designs and affected by EPA regs. Only good top loader now is Speed Queen, I have one and its a great machine.
-
bad ass washer machine will always be remembered as a heavy duty dependable easy to use if ever breaks you can get your clothes out and an easy repair new washer lasts only five years if your lycky
-
Cute cat
-
Do you have any thoughts on speed queen?
-
I just get the feeling that speed queen and maytag are linked meaning the same company.
-
Does anyone know if these machines were sold in Australia?
-
i like your cat

I have a new bravo maytag HE washer and is a 700 dollars piece of shit and I miss so badly this 1996 model that i used to have, but i came with the brillant idea to replace it for buy this HE low shit washer, maytag is not even the 10% of what it used to be, is 8 months old and is failing, noisy, there is no way that you can avoid its shaking even with hours trying to balance it
-
Mine does not do the shake that much, everything else works fine.
-
That Maytag washer has the "orbital" transmission, it has a shorter stroke agitation action. That replaced the "helical-drive" transmission, that had the longer stroke agitation action. If loaded properly, this (orbital) Maytag washer does a very nice job of cleaning dirty laundry!
-
Great old machines. The lint filter inside the dasher worked surprisingly well, drawing water in through the dasher post and pumping out through the flair between the vanes by centrifugal effect.
-
The last of long-lasting Maytags. After that, they started to suck (no thanks to Whirlpool for buying them out).
-
AppliancePartsPros.com has parts for your maytags;
Washer; Pump and drive belt, water level switch, pressure hose, bearing kit, drain pump, lid switch, timer, etc
Dryer; Belt, igniter, flame sensor, timer, etc
I could not find a tub seal on appliance parts pros but I'll comment again once I find one -
before whirlpool took over almost every brand there is. My fridge is a 20+ year old estate brand(now whirlpool) and only thing I had to do so far was recently replace the light switch. My gas stove is also 20+ years old. It is a caloric heritage series. only issue with it is the timer sucks.
