Machines | Tesla Vehicle Engineering - Part 3
videos | at work | information | view | construction
Tesla's Vice President of Vehicle Engineering, Peter Rawlinson, talks about some of the features of Model S engineering at Tesla headquarters. He discusses the advantages of designing a car from the ground using Tesla's proven electric powertrain, and how the result will be a drive experience to surpass any that have come before it. that guy is a fucking pedometer. he chats shit. shaking his hand like he's giving a handjob and says the word package. because he doesn't know anything about cars. bollok face.

I believe square batteries don't leave space for liquid coolant that the batteries need.
-
Wonder how this would hold up going through standing water half way or more of wheel height, as in a very heavy downpour or small flash flood. How well is that entire battery pack assembly so low to the ground insulated against standing water deep enough to cover it.
-
Only enemy is water and flash flood .

I've been seeing Tesla Model_S's around Toronto, but I've never heard them being advertised on the radio.
-
Genuine work of ART!!! I'm amazed this Automobile isn't twice the price!
-
Tightly packed components means high repair/labor costs. Great piece of engineering as long as there are quality parts. Hope Tesla helps revive the electric car movement.
-
So can you slam it?

Bye Bye Audi..Good for Mercedes to own shares in Tesla..
-
My thoughts exactly
-
I could`nt agree more :) Sincerely

Very impressive to say the least. Good luck to all at Tesla !

Soooo…. Would it be possible to make the Model S 4x4, just like the Model X?
-
for every gas lover try running your car for less than 33 Dollars a month, thats the average power bill increase for people that use the telsa doing about 3000 miles a month
-
I want a part fooooooooour.
-
It's Tesla we're talking about. They can figure it out some way.

That space is used for thermal manegement i think. Something that is vital.
-
Love how the perceived weakness of batteries (their weight and bulk) is turned in to a positive.
-
I'd suggest that for the next facelift/model, use square or hexagon-shaped batteries instead of round ones. Round batteries packed together side-by-side have a lot of empty space between them, that can be used for extra capacity. It will not matter much on 10 batteries, but it will on 7,000.

Electric motors is THE most efficient way to get mechanical motion in the world (except the ion rocket engine I think, that's damned efficient, but only works in vacuum, and is very weak). Even if you take electricity from coal fired plants, you still pollute half as much with an electric car than a gasoline car, because the coal fired plants are extremely efficient, and the combustion engines lightweight enough to be in cars, are extremely inefficient (max about 35%).
