More here: http://wwf.panda.org/palmoil Most palm oil is produced in Malaysia and Indonesia on land that was once thriving rainforest. As global demand grows, more and more forests are being cleared. In areas such as Borneo and Sumatra, rich in biodiversity, deforestation can be catastrophic. Endangered species including orang-utans, tigers, elephants and rhinos are losing critical habitats, pushing them toward extinction. In 2004, WWF helped set up the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), a group that includes every link in the global supply chain, from growers and processors, to food companies and retailers and investors. With the RSPO, WWF developed a set of international standards for responsible palm oil production. Producers that show they meet these criteria are able to sell certified sustainable palm oil. That means companies that use it in their lipstick, soap, margarine or whatever else can make the same guarantee to their customers. Certified sustainable palm oil cannot be grown in place of primary forest or in important conservation areas. Growers have to use the best growing practices to keep soil and water supplies healthy, and to reduce pollution and carbon emissions. They also need to pay a decent wage and respect the rights of workers and communities. The first certified sustainable palm oil came on to the market in September 2008. Today, about 6.4% of all palm oil is certified sustainable. By looking out for CSPO, the label for sustainable palm oill, you'll be able to buy these products safe in the knowledge that you're not contributing to the destruction of the rainforests. RID 3108

The problem is there is far too much corruption in Palm oil producing countries ; Indonesia, Ghana , Malaysia etc . No point in having more legislation to control illegal deforestation by the oil palm companies as they will just pay-off officials / politician to turn a blind eye. The responsibility is with consumers who must know which products contain palm oil and either refuse to use them or look for alternatives. Tragic / funny that the cure for the next global mass killer pandemic is probably in the forests being clear cut , just so we can have a cheaper margarine or lip-stick.

Two certified “sustainable” Indonesian plantations, both linked to PepsiCo, allegedly exploited workers and turned a blind eye to child labor. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/palm-oil-human-cost-child-labor-ran_us_57591c76e4b00f97fba74ccd

"50% of packaged products in your local supermarket contain palm oil."
So you mean to tell me that my choices as a consumer are subsidizing the population growth of some Islamic shithole? I had no idea how much harm I was doing! Thank you WWF for raising my awareness! It's back to home cooking and domestic ingredients for me from now on. -

Indonesia have more than 30% reserves forest while in Europe, there have only less than 18% forest. So, who make the first destruction to animals in local geography habitats???
Not to mentions the USA and Canada, Brazil, Columbia etc. Human was invaded the forest to make oil products such as corn oil, coconut oil, olive oil etc.
Did they do not deforesting the forest before they planting such plants?? How about urbanization??? New York, Tokyo, London, Washington, Denver, Venice etc, they deforested the million of hectares of jungle and of course killing the habitats of the animals. WWF will not using PANDA as their organisation logo if China do not deforesting to make big cities, yet, skeptical accuses still going towards Indonesia and Malaysia as the biggest palm oil productions. Orangutans is not the only habitats that living in this world. -
Indonesian now produce MORE palm oil due to booming industries using palm oil as Biodiesel.
producing more palm oil means more deforestation for planting palm trees. -
From what I see there is no such thing as GOOD PALM OIL; BOYCOTT!
Nature should always go first; any argument to go against nature is to go against life.

The funniest thing is all of you are complaining about the deforestation thing but you're actually the major factor why they plant the palm trees. Malaysia and Indonesia will benefits a lot out of our productivity. Remember, In Malaysia we are not set the fire to the forest. Sorry for the bad English.

Did you know that 90 percent of Peninsular West Malaysia are covered with palm oil plantations? Oh more deforestation to come for palm oil industry! And how about those workers who works under low wages? WWF is a sell out. A true sell out. Where is your common sense? Why are you promoting this as a good thing when actually they are destroying the forest and plant more palm oil that we don't need! How about coconut oil? How about others that actually is healthy and sustainable for people. You are doing this for the love of money and capitalism. SELL OUT.

It is vital to Our environment to support WWF in its actions for sustainable palm oil and environment protection in order to save future generations. They need to inherit an environment that must feed them too!!! Il faut soutenir WWF dans son combat environmental et d'adoption de palmier à huile durable pour sauver l'environnement car les générations futures doivent hériter d'un environnement qui doit les nourrir aussi!!!
