Machines | Stump Removal with a John Deere 450C Dozer
videos | at work | information | view | construction
My dad had a tree removed from his yard last summer. This stump remained, so he wanted to get it removed so he could re-grade his yard for better drainage. Tools were a JD Backhoe, and our 450C Dozer. That stump was at least 3' in diameter, and over 6' from top to the bottom of the root ball. And freakin' heavy...

That's really a nice old 450 - I've got quite a bit of time on a small 350, often wished for a bit more weight and hp. Big stump - I'd have been inclined to drill a big hole down the center and touch off about 18-20 oz. of black powder before I dug into it. Surprised he moved that thing as well as he did.

For someone that thinks this is easy has never run equipment. This is good dozer work.

I am from Jonesboro GA myself, watching this from Oregon ! I like the old 70s and 80s model JD equipment, it's the most common thing you see out on the farms in the country back home in GA. Lol, the comment below about using just the backhoe to take out this stump made me laugh, they obviously never ran any of this equipment. Great video :)

log chain, drag, done

He just keeps making the same stupid mistake over and over again !

If you had a backhoe to dig around the stump why didn't you use the hoe to pull the stump out ? You are wasting your time with a stupid dozer

Gute Arbeit!

The old story of David and Goliath , we all know the outcome of that one !

Great Video

Nice restoration on the JD 450C. I would love to have one of those just to play around with. It looks like you are in the sand hill country. Nice video.

why don't he dig hole with backhoe put tha stump in hole cover it up
-
Taking the stump out is almost automatic when you leave the tree attached. We take out many with a JD 300 loader backhoe. The locust tree we just removed had a bigger stump than this one you had.
-
Why didn't you just burn it it the hole
-
why not just use the backhoe to pull it out of the whole

When regrading to achieve the best final results the top soil is put in one pile and the subsoil in another.Fill the hole slowly with the subsoil and lift the stump up repeating the process. Then with the blades corner edge push and angle the blade removing the stump. Get extra soil from else where to replace the volume that the stump removal lost. Then take the top soil that was saved and finish the job creating new growth with all the original nutrients. ken b- Final Grade, "We set the grade for others."
