Machines | Starting a Car - Explained

How does a car engine start? What happens when you turn your key? Your engine starts, but what's the process that causes this to occur. It's truly impressive that all this happens in about 1 second. Your an awesome teacher man, you explain stuff pretty simply but accurate. Thanks!

Thanks!

Thank's a Lot

Where does the alternator come in to play? My brother in law has an 02 blazer and it doesn't start. My dad says there is something wrong with the alternator. The car turns on but it won't turn over
-
if you have a diesel car you have to wait 8-10 seconds before starting the engine, damn it!
-
Thank you bro. Very simple and direct. Thank you for simplifying it. Really appreciate it
-
can you explain the kick start, commonly used for bikes
-
hi, does this work for both diesel and petrol engines ? Would be completely normal for a diesel engine, but wouldnt it make more sense for a petrol engine for it to just set off the spark plugs to create the combustion to get the first revolution of the drive shaft and pistons moving and then it would be self sustainable? (I don't know a whole lot about mechanical engineering but that was just a thought question, not trying to say you're wrong or anything)

Before electrical sensors and ECUs how did a spark plug know when to spark?
-
wish all university professors were like you :(
-
hi! I just wanted to know how far AVERAGELY can a typical gasoline car can go? please answer☺
-
Is it possible that you shut off the engine while one cylinder has just drawn in fuel and compressed it but hasn't sparked it yet? If so what happens to the fuel mixture and is it hard on things
-
How exactly is that signal sent from the turning of the key to the battery? If the battery is the only source of electrical energy wouldn't there have to be some sort of energy source to send that initial signal to the battery to turn on starter motor? And once the car has begun its combustion sequence does the battery continue to feed power to the starter motor even after the car has fully started?
-
I would like to point out that negative pressure isnt what draws the intake valve open. Your timing belt/chain connects the bottom of the engine ( crank shaft) to the top of the engine (valves, and cams) which is what allows them to open and close when the engine starts.
-
Does the same process happen with a push to start button? It sends an impulse to the starter when you push the button
-
So what makes the spark plugs, spark???
-
This help me but i also wanted to know what happens when you turn the car off
-
Theoretical question: If I somehow connect the starter motor the opposite way to the starter solenoid (plus to minus, minus to plus), will it turn the crankshaft the opposite way and the car will go in reverse instead of forward?
-
thank you. tis is the first video which explains in laymen terms the general mechanism. Really good

does cylinder 1 have to be at tdc or bdc on start up?
