April 27, 2015 │ On this week's episode of Cabela's Wildlife and Land Management (WLM) TV, Senior Wildlife Biologist, Rans Thomas, uses his Cabela's LM50H Compact Tractor (http://www.cabelas.com/product/1672772.uts) with a 3-Point Boom Sprayer (http://www.cabelas.com/product/1695181.uts) to treat an existing perennial clover food plot with grass selective herbicides on the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) Heritage Center in South Carolina. By controlling competing grasses and broadleaf weeds with herbicides and/or mowing in perennial food plots, land managers can get up to 6 years out of one planting. The 50-horsepower tractor is perfect size to treat up to several acre food plots and the 110-gallon sprayer holds enough volume to do the same acreage. Then we will head to the Midwest, and join Regional Wildlife Biologist Jeremy Flinn as he discusses the strategy in one area of the Midwest Whitetail Farm providing nutrition and hunting benefits. In past episodes, Jeremy planted clover in an area that has produced a lot of whitetail activity. The perennial clover food plot is situated between a warm season corn food plot and cool season food plot.
