This happen on Highway 54 south in Jefferson city Missouri. While I was traveling on 54 when I came upon a lot of smoke. Once I got close the smell was very bad. I discovered a dump truck and a pup. I seen the smoke coming out of the stacks. I not sure what happen. But man the smell. My car sinks. Note. I do not own rights to song. It was playing on the car radio.

My guess is blown turbo. Don't know why he didn't stop, probably trying to make it to the next exit, being a douche while doing so since nobody can see behind him. Question though: Why did you pull over after passing him? Did you tell him about it or something - he obviously knew because he was driving slowly on the side of the road, so I don't see the point of telling him ?
Edit: So, I found this video on reddit, not sure if you're the one who posted it there or not. If not, two other people also said blown turbo (I didn't read comments there until after posting this comment).
It might have been a "runaway" failure, where the oil is sucked into the intake. If you don't know, diesel engines use compression alone to cause combustion (actually detonation in a diesel engine - that is why they are louder). So if you have a source of fuel in the air intake, such as oil from the turbocharger, then you can have a "runaway" condition where the engine runs as fast as it physically can - usually they end up seizing, or coming apart in many pieces.
