Machines | Singer Heavy Dutry 4432 Sewing Real 3 oz Leather
videos | at work | information | view | construction
This was originally a video response to Christopher Nejman video showing how his top of the line Baby Lock Ellisimo sews leather before Youtube took away video responses. Sewing leather at home does NOT require a sewing machine that cost 5 to 8 thousand dollars! Here I show you how even the low cost Singer 4432 can sew 4 layers of real leather successfully. It also sews through faux leather with ease - since real leather is more dense. The key is using a leather needle. Here I use a size 18 Schmetz Leather Needle. I am not being paid by Singer in any way. And I did pay for the machine I am showing in this video. The point is if you want to sew thinner weight fake (faux) and/or real leather then you don't need to spend anymore than a few hundred dollars to do so. Be aware that depending on the machine you chose and various other factors (like sewing 50+ leather bags a year) might shorten the life of your machine. If you plan on sewing leather daily then please consider an industrial machine. If you want a machine that has a camera and automatically sews a straight line without you holding the fabric; can sew leather and you can afford the $8K to $12K price, then you'll want to look at the top of the line machines. BTW, they are amazing and worth every penny if you can afford one. :) Please note that no home machine is designed for sewing leather on a regular basis. For that you need a industrial machine where the motor is measured in HP not Amps.

can you PLEASE let me know,if you use regular thread?

Hi! Can you change out the needle to sew regular fabric? Or is this solely for heavy thick material?
-
Also what's the white accessory behind the foot for? To sew felt carpet, what kind of needle will I need pls?
-
I have a singer 4423 and am hoping to sew the borders of a carpet to use it as a rug. Do you think this machine would see through a felt carpet plus I layer of thin leather. Any suggestions for sewing /bonding carpet border would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Hi Kevin, I guess you have answered this alot, but i am planning to create some handmade shoes.
Is this machine able to start my endeavour? I mean, use it to stich the leather (3oz per piece)
Also, does it ZigZag stiches leather?
Thank you in advance -
I have an industrial machine.. If I get a teflon foot with the size 18 needle would that be enough? I am currently using a sewing awl but that is taking some time to do on a leather bag.

What tension did you use on the leather in your video?

I do a lot of leather sewing and I use a Singer Model 127 Treadle machine made in 1922-
-works great. These can be picked up for about $75-$100. These old machines are real work horses. -
Hi Kevin, I had problems with the noise that 4432 makes. When I bought it it doesn't seem that loud and Im thinking there might be a problem since it's my first time using it and Im still learning how to sew. It started after I sew some elastic to a fabric. Maybe I made a mistake by pulling the fabric/elastic too much while sewing or using the wrong needle. Please give me an advice.

Hi Kevin I am looking for a machine that sees through multiple layers of leather but I will be using it for many projects. Would you recommend?

Hello great tip on leather needle. What about neoprene? Have you sewn with 4432?
-
Great demo! I have that machine and it sews great, plus it sews fast about 1,100 stitches a minute where most home machine stitch 750 stitches. A Teflon foot works well for leather also.

Can the Singer 44S Classic Heavy Duty. ?
-
Could you say, what the difference between 4411/4423/4432 models? And which machine better for leather(bags, wallets)?
-
I'm still not sure about sewing leather with this machine. I have a one year warranty but the Singer lady told me that if I sew leather, eventually the motor will burn out and the warranty does not cover it. I'm too scared to try :/

Thank you.

I noted that you mentioned walking foot is that the name of the foot that comes with the machine or will I need to purchased another foot? Thanks for your help.

Good video. I just purchased a 4423 for sewing leather, rucksack webbing, and a variety of other bushcraft projects. It's impressive what it does for the price and size. Thanks for the demo.
