Green technology represents the future of automotive engineering, and as a commitment to help create a sustainable environment, PROTON Holdings Berhad (PROTON) and Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM), a statutory body set up by the Government via AIM Act 2010, have taken the initiative to organise the PROTON Green Mobility Challenge 2012 - Innovating Electrification of Automotive Industry. This initiative is in tandem with the pledge by the Malaysian Government during Copenhagen Declaration, to reduce greenhouse gases by 40% come the year 2020 PGMC 2012 (the challenge) mainly targets the participation of local research community including post graduates and undergraduates from the selected institutions of higher learning in Malaysia/universities -- both local and foreign (with local presence) - that offer engineering and automotive programmes. A total of Ten (10) out of Nineteen (19) teams from the various universities were shortlisted to compete in the challenge based on their presentation to the Technical Committee. The teams will research and work for about 9 months on a project focusing on the energy saving technology and strategies. The overall winner will receive a RM50,000 research grant, an internship with PROTON and a chance to compete on the global stage.
