Picked up a rusty weight set and was able to bring it back to life for $30 and some elbow grease.

That awkward moment after 5:40 when you realize this guy has no clue how rust forms...
-
So you put in all that time and effort into removing the rust but then didn't repaint so they can get rusty again. That makes no sense.
-
if your weights are rusty do you have to sort it out? is there any problems other then the appearance?
-
thats old school stuff
-
did you know your standard York plates were made in China? for the time and effort you put into this, you could have bought all new plates.
-
They look good without the paint in my opinion. That rugged prison look to it.
-
Wipe the plates down with mineral oil to keep them from rusting.

Click this 5:03 to hear a meow! :D

Hello Joshua, nice job on the clean-up, but wouldn't you want to paint them just to keep any new rust from forming, especially since there's a lot less of the original paint on them now? If I did that much work I would make sure I didn't have to do it again. A can of Rust-Oleum 2 in 1 spray paint & primer is under $5.

those turned out great! good job man!
-
Helpful... Now lift them lol
-
May I ask where you bought the handles for the Dumbbells?
-
Man. that was really thorough. Most guys I know, including myself, would have just painted over the rust at most. It would stop further deterioration for a good while, but you did a shit ton of scrubbing and got every speck of rust out. You're gonna produce some quality things if you ever become a project leader of anything. I aspire to be more like that.

Good job Josh. Thank you for your video. Where did you dispose the rust-water when you finished? I'm not sure to throw it in the grass once I'm done with my next project. I'm restoring some dumbells
-
Getting those York weights for free, you scored big time.
-
Thanks Josh ,,just trying to help ,,,Ive restored weights both ways,,,DD
-
IF you have a ton of plates and solid dumbells, its really worth to take it to a local mom and pop sandblasting outfit. Then paint em with Rustoleum red oxide primer and silver hammer tone spray paint.Easy Pessy,,,,,this willl save your hours and hours of work,,,
