Rugby is a massive Station on the West Coast Main Line and is 82 Miles from London Euston and 319 miles from Glasgow Central. It is where the Birmingham Loop Line to Coventry, Birmingham and Wolverhampton branches off the West Coast Main Line. The station has been remodelled to allow non stopping Pendolino's and Super Voyagers to pass through at the full line speed at 125 mph and now has 6 platforms. However the historic Birdcage Bridge which one proudly carried the Great Central Railway over the West Coast Main Line has sadly been dismantled as a result of the West Coast Main Line Modernisation Project. On the day of filming I managed to see 5 surprises alongside the usual Pendolinos, Super Voyagers and Desiros. They were as follows; Wrexham & Shropshire Class 67 013 + 4 Mk3's + DVT Class 82 304. Class 66 711 (in old GBRF livery) + Freightliner Class 86 501 (Freightliner Green) + Freightliner Class 66 433 + Class 66 416 (DRS) + Freightliner Class 92 042 (Honegger) + Class 90 020 (Collingwood) The Wrexham & Shropshire Train working from Wrexham General to London Marylebone had been diverted from Wolverhampton via Birmingham, Rugby and the WCML due to engineering work on the Chiltern Main Line. On a typical weekday Rugby has 8 trains an hour off peak and the service pattern is as follows; 1 tph to Crewe (XX03) 1 tph to Northampton (XX14) 3 tph to Birmingham New St (XX16, XX27 , XX51) 3 tph to London Euston (XX19, XX24, XX33) I hope you enjoy this video as its the first time I've ever trainspotted at Rugby Station and it has been a massive success.
