Machines | Rice Harvest in Japan!
videos | at work | information | view | construction
A quick video from today (2013/10/06) of me and one of my fellow teachers from my school harvesting the rice that we planted in May this year. It was a lot of fun helping with the harvest and to drive the machine!

I'd probably say 稲刈り inekari (rice harvesting) too, but it's as much to do with harvesting what you sowed 5 months earlier, I find that very rewarding. I cycled past some of the rice fields to get to/from work and so I have seen the rice growing slowly over time. But yeah, with the 田植え taue (rice planting) comes muddy boots and sunburns!

It's my colleague at school who has 10 rice fields. We had been talking about rice planting and he mentioned he had some fields, so I asked if he'd like some help. Now I've helped to plant and harvest some of the rice and it's great fun! I also now get free rice :D

Which do you like,田植え or 稲刈り?? I prefer 稲刈り because we have to scrape the mud from our shoes after planting and whenever I do planting, I get a sunburn because the light in early summer reflect off the water of the rice field. I become scared to take a bath^^;

Its so cool that they involve you in local activities like this.
