Machines | Repairing the hydraulic cylinder on my boom truck
videos | at work | information | view | construction
Just working to get my boom truck functional once again so that it might be used to build a metal building for me. As you can see from the video, no one would hire me to do this work as it takes me abt 4 times as long as it would for a person who is not disabled such as myself!

Please don't watch this!! There are safer more informative videos!!

Sir, I appreciate your time and effort in showing us how to work on a cylinder. Thank you

some people need to learn about a subject before posting video clips on youtube.

WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE, DISASSEMBLE, ASSEMBLE, or ATTEMPT TO SECURE A CYLINDER USING ANY OF THE METHODS IN THIS VIDEO. ATTEMPTING TO DO SO CAN RESULT IN SEVERE INJURY, DEATH, AND/OR SUBSTANTIAL PROPERTY DAMAGE. If you do have the knowledge or tools to perform a hydraulic cylinder repair safely, take it to a reputable cylinder repair center.

you can clearly see that fitting broke when you tried to unhook hose before cylinder was off of boom truck

I have a boom truck and I had to have the same cylinder overhauled once before. The guys who did the work removed one pin from the boom end of the cylinder and hung the cylinder from a chain around the boom. They then pulled the rod with piston out of the cylinder replaced the seals and than reinstalled the rod with out removing the heavy cylinder. My boom truck is a 15 ton so the cylinder is bigger than the one you have.

HI man you did good. Keep it going. Take care

great video, i have a rollback wrecker and my main cylinder is leaking, now after seeing you do this, im sure that i can do it myself.. thanks for the video sir!
-
Well, was just doing the best that I could by myself, disabled and all. But never fear, I was extra careful to make sure that I did not score the ram in any way possible.

First, thanks for the video. With all respect, I will leave some negative, but hopefully constructive comments. 1. When you pull that things off, you should have put it in a dolly or 2 much earlier. If the stud has any mark on it, the ring will fail prematurely. You probably can knock it off, like when you put it on. 2. You need to be more careful with large heavy item, when put it on. Anchor it tight with several 2x4 woods would help, like the "missing helping hands you needed".

Well, I personally have never dealt with Messick's and have no idea how their prices are. I just like dealing with K&E because they are only 50 mi away from my house. And above all else they have dirt cheap prices and do quality work on top of that
-
Oh yeah, and btw, you would save urself a lot of money by going to a local hydraulic repair shop, instead of dealing with Altec, if your truck is also fitted with an altec boom. Just to give u an idea all of this cost me 10% of the altec price, and that is just the price of the parts ad would not cover the installation like what I had done here in this video.

Well, this is why I made this video for in the first place-- to help ppl like you who have never repaired a hydraulic cylinder before. But one thing I should note is that in Oct of 09 I suffered a stroke and was immediately diagnosed as having ms. So you can do a lot if you just put your mind to it as this video shows everyone.

My 'laid back style' is a product of being totally disabled. I have no knowledge of what a 'tickles brother' even is
