Demonstration of remote controlled excavator and dump trucks 2016. The Norwegian construction company Gjermundshaug together with Specto Remote AS developed this technology back in 2009. It enables the operators to remote control excavators, dump trucks, dozers and tractors – from safe distances up to 10 kilometers. The operators chair can instantly be switched between different types of machinery. The machinery and the chair can also be securely connected over the internet – meaning you can operate an excavator thousands of miles away. Video compression technology and video feed bundling offering high quality images while keeping delay down. These machines are used in hazardous environments such as mine fields and artillery ranges. The control signals are wirelessly transferred between the machine and the operators chair. All aspects of the technology have been continuously developed, improved and used since 2009. One person can easily operate several automated dumptrucks and excavators while achieving full production at the same time. Dump trucks can be fully automated – meaning that they drive themselves according to a preplanned route & GPS with just a punch of a button.
