Truck fire closes Hwy 99 south of Massey Tunnel A burning truck closed B.C.'s Highway 99 in both directions south of the Massey Tunnel on Wednesday morning. Witnesses reported explosions after the southbound dump truck hit the highway median and burst into flames around 9 a.m. PT near the overpass for Highway 17A, also known as the Ladner Trunk overpass. The cause of the fire has not been released by police, but eyewitness Marc Wright told CBC News it appeared the driver lost control of the truck and the truck hit a median and burst into flames. Other witnesses have suggested the truck may have blown a tire before hitting the median. Firefighters dispatched to the scene said they would let the fire burn itself out after they ran out of water. It is not yet known if anyone has been injured, but air ambulances dispatched to the scene were called back. The tunnel has been reopened to traffic in both directions, but southbound traiffic detoured around the crash site via the Highway 17A or River Road exits. Northbound traffic can access the Massey Tunnel via Highway 17A.
