Machines | Pushing Down Tree with Hough 90C Wheel Loader

Had to take down this tree to put up a fence. Used an old Hough 90C wheel loader to knock it over. This machine is old and worn, but is still useful around the farm. I am sure that back in its day, this tree would have been no sweat. Hopefully, after some TLC, I can get it back operating like its supposed to.

H90CM. My AIT (advanced individual training) in the Army was on this machine. The training was at Fort Leonard Wood Mo in the spring of 1970. These machines were "bouncy" when traveling in high gear and they could easily be turned over - they had no rollover protection. Just before I was at Fort Leonard Wood, one soldier was killed when he flipped his H90CM over.
After my training, I was with the 1313 Engineers National Guard Company Camp Atterbury, Edinburg Indiana. There I spent all my time on the H90Cm at the gravel pit or around the camp pulling out concrete foundation pilings from the torn down WWII barracks.
The H90CM has the muffler just behind the driver and it was LOUD - the army provided no ear protection. After a day operating the loader your ears would be ringing. Being an invincible 20 year old I thought nothing of it. I think a lot about it now for I have lost most of my hearing. I miss hearing the Beatles singing "Hey Jude" in the way it should be heard. -

Whenever I watch a video where someone knocks over an old tree there are always those who say something about a chainsaw being the right tool for the job. For the purpose of felling a lot of trees and moving on to a new site, yes, a chainsaw is the proper tool for the job. However, even the most seasoned lumberjack will agree that when the purpose of the job is to remove the tree and stump entirely, such as it is in this case, just knocking it over roots and all is the only way to go. Pushing it over uses the weight of the tree as leverage to pull up the roots and it kills two birds with one stone. Sawing it down will remove the tree but then you still have the stump to contend with. You can't just simply drive the bucket of a loader into a stump and expect it to pop out of the ground if it's a living tree. That loader would have a really hard time removing the stump afterwards seeing as how it's a loader and not a digging machine like a backhoe. He did the right thing in this video.

@Wallabydam Mine is not a smooth shift from first to second, but I do not have a clunk either. But, neither do I have 3rd and 4th. I will have to check the plate underneath when I get back home.

@SLHawk92 Honestly, im not sure, On my tranny it says Use TYPE A transmission Fluid, Not sure what it was back then, right now i have automatic transmission fluid in mine right now, and it seems to work just fine, not over heating or anything BUT ever since i got the machine wwhen i shift from 1 through 4 it always CLUNKS into gear, never smooth, always CLUNK< even when you let off gas, not too sure, There is a metal plate on the bottom on the back of tranny with what fluid to use.

@Wallabydam : Yes, I do believe it very well may have been in 2nd. It was also low on fluid when I first started. I filled it up and went at it again. I cut that part out of the video. At the time, my uncle was using regular automatic transmission fluid. Do you think it would work better with the universal hyd-trans fluid?

@SLHawk92 that thing has GOt to be stuck in second or something, it moves way faster then mine in first gear, someone might have left it in second for a all around good gear, but on these machines 1st is a big time must thats why i say when pushing the tree it acts like its in second, i tried it in mine and looks and seemed to be the way way.
