PSTA Bus and Dump Truck Collide on Gulf to Bay Blvd Posted - December 13, 2014 - 2:20 PM Updated - December 18, 2014 - 7:30 PM On Saturday, December 13, 2014 at approximately 8:55 AM, crews from Clearwater Fire & Rescue, Sunstar Paramedics and Clearwater Police Department responded to Gulf to Bay Blvd and Hampton Road for reports of a vehicle crash involving a dump truck and a PSTA bus. Lieutenant Rescue 49 was on-scene almost immediately still as the call was being dispatched and reported that the dump truck was on its side. The PSTA bus driver's foot was pinned since the bus experienced heavy damage due to impact with the dump truck. Additional crews arrived to assist in freeing the driver from the bus. According to Clearwater Police Department, the dump truck was traveling westbound on Gulf to Bay and ran the red light. The PSTA bus was travelling eastbound and trying to make a left turn onto Hampton Road. The dump truck, which was hauling a load of dirt, overturned after the collision and slid about 250 ft on its side. The dirt and spills of oil and antifreeze had to be cleaned from the roadway, which closed most lanes for more than three hours. The driver of the bus and dump truck were taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. Five other people were transported to hospitals such as Mease Countryside and Morton Plant. None of the injuries were considered to be life-threatening. The driver of the dump truck, Osvaldo Molano Rodriguez of Tampa, was cited for running a red light. The driver of the bus was Ray David Jones of Largo. There were 13 passengers on the bus at the time of the accident.
