A crash on North Carolina Highway 210 sent a dump truck careening off the road and into a home on February 8. An out-of-control dump truck was to blame for demolishing a house in North Carolina last week, after another vehicle sent the truck careening off the road. According to local news station WRAL, a 57-year-old man in a pickup truck ran a stop sign, hitting the dump truck that was travelling south on North Carolina Highway 210 last Monday. The dump truck operator, 71-year-old Tony Spainhour, then lost control of the truck, which careened off the road and into a nearby house. Dashcam video from the dump truck shows the vehicle veering off the road and crashing into the side of the house through a brick wall. According to a post on Spainhour’s Facebook page, the pickup truck collided with the right rear wheels of his dump truck, causing him to lose control of the rig. “This video shows how fast an accident can happen without you having time to react. Most people want to place the blame on large trucks when an accident occurs but in most cases they are the result of the actions of other drivers,” Spainhour wrote. “I only survived this collision by lying across the seats at the time of impact.” According to WRAL, the driver of the pickup truck was charged with failing to stop for a stop sign, driving with a revoked license and operating a vehicle with a fictitious license plate. Spainhour suffered non-life threatening injuries.
