Hi D eez, thanks for your comments! Another roller / crimper design (open source) can be found on the Farm Hack website at: http://farmhack.net/tools/cover-crop-roller. Not sure if that would better meet your needs for crimping or not... the Rodale Institute has also posted plans for their roller-crimper at: http://rodaleinstitute.org/our-work/organic-no-till/no-till-rollercrimper-plans/

NOt as much as u would like to see. ??? OK, It's easy to understand the Stalk must bend to crimp. This Drum has angle iron so it's making it more like a roller and stalk is flat when flat blade rolls over top. It doesn't crimp very well.
Better Idea would be 2 have a big roller of Straight blades (that are not so close together )and then a second flat roller to ensure crimped plants are left flat.
Will a bigger drum with flat blades will crimp stalks better or worse than a smaller drum with fewer blades. Stalks need to bend to crimp. Don't really want a roller. Want a crimper. -
does this method have any issues with compacting soil structure and creating a impermeable soil pan

why???!!!

how do you plant the cover-crop in the fall? Disk?

Brilliant vid and I am certain I can incorporate it somehow into the model I am developing for a scalable no till system.

Thanks for the info, I'm sure it helps!

hi i dont know if it helps but we have used that sort of equipment in the uk for a long time to control ferns in woodland. Wot we have done is reduced the amount of bars on our roller to in affect make the drum not so round this makes for a harder impact as the bar hits the plant you get less crimps per foot but the ons you get are alot harder if that makes any sence
