1998 Newholland 8970. Bought the tractor with 10275 hours on it. It had dropped both valves in cylinder 2. Ended up having to replace the head. Got all new valves and related parts. Put in 6 new pistons and 2 new connecting rods. Bored out the block and fitted with sleeves to get back to original size. Ground down crankshaft tenth thousands. Also did some painting to make it look pretty again. So far it works nice. Pulling a Brent 5 shank CPC at the end.

does anyone know any Service Technicians who has been fixing any case or new holland tractors are are looking for work? -
Did the previous owner say what cased the problem. Have on running with 20475hrs, adjusted the valves and had the injectors redone but the rest of the engine is untouched.

wow, awsome job man. looks great!
An old friend called me last Fall about if I was available to drive from time to time. He has a farm and do a lot of farm services like combine harvesting, baling hay/straw round/big-square and manure hauling/spreading.
I had not touch a tractor in 20some years so I was kind of nervous about this. My last was a MF3120 hauling 3200gals. His are NH-TG255, 2x NH-TG285, NH8670, NH8770 and others.... The 8670 is pumped up to 340HP, the 255 is pumped up to 290HP.... they're all pumped up to around 20% to 35% depending of them working hour range readiness for that kind of boost (they range from 7000hrs to 13000hrs). So I started small with the 285 (310HP) hauling the small 4500gals ;) It has 12000hrs on it. The only glitch it ever had was the electronic and such (hydraulic-controls and transmission.... as all others especially the 200series which are a real mess) This Spring I was hauling the same tank but with the 8670 and I have plow and disk with the 255 and 285 and later on hauling the 6500gals manure spreader with the 255 (lets just say that now I feel like a kid again even at 52yrs old LOL).
The 8670 has the 40km gear in it. The funny (not so funny) thing is that the 8th and 10th gear are the same. So each time up-shifting to e.g. 7th,8th,9th you have to skip the 10th and go to the 11th or end-up the nose in the windshield LOL (same goes when down-shit)
Do you have the "highway gear"? If so, is it setup the same "funky" way or did you find a hack for it to range smoothly without skipping the 10th gear?
