Neighbors Helping Neighbors - When Tractors Get Stuck. It happens to all of us. All of us, that is, who work in the dirt. We get stuck sooner or later. I have not yet been stuck in our Massey Ferguson tractor, but sooner or later I will. Our neighbor was mowing the ditch line with his brush hog and his Allis Chalmers tractor when he got stuck in the mud. Would a John Deere have done any better? No. He went back and got his other vintage tractor and we pulled his Allis Chalmers out of the mud. He has been mowing this ditch line for many, many years. Many of the farmers and ranchers mow the ditch lines around their properties to keep it looking a bit nicer and to help keep any fire danger down a bit. The successes and fails, laughter and tears, learning and amazement, fun and adventure, cooking and farming, experiments, games, education and the children themselves. That's homesteading. I learned a trick for unsticking about anything years ago and it works every time for me. First, I hate sticking my tractor. They just should not get stuck.Get 3 bags of lime and store it where it will stay dry. When this happens, put 3 or 4 shovel fulls of lime on top of both rear tires. Whatever is left from the bag, dump it in front of the tire that's stuck the worst. Put it in low gear and drive right out. Works every time for me.When going way out there and away from roads, I throw a bag and shovel on board so I can unstick it right away. I hope this helps you some day.

I finally got the tractor out to do some shredding this weekend. It's been about a week since the last measurable rain, but that ground is still surely wet in a few places. Spun my tires a time or two. Great thing you were there to lend a hand!

Great video. Enjoyed it. Classic tractors live to farm another day.

A great video!

That's being a good neighbor. Good video

Ha! Such a silly goose that neighbor of yours is! Mow a ditch after heavy rains? That's begging the mud to stuck you... It's a job to be done in dry conditions! Getting stuck in the field because you have to plant when the seed has proper time to grow right or you can loose the crop is one thing. But stuck mowing a ditch? I had to smile at this one :)

Poppa still likes flying that drone. I see.

I was at a friend's place and saw the neighbor chain his D8 to a Farmall Cub stuck in the muddy field. Before I could get over there he managed to rip that tractor in half. Broke the bell housing right off of the transmission. Because that tractor has no frame, I was trying to warn him not to pull on the front axle but to pass the chain under and grab the rear axle housing, preferably on both sides as near the wheels as possible. Hated to see that beautiful machine become parts.

Farmers helping their neighbors, so wonderful to see. That is the way I remember my childhood. Can remember if there was sickness or a death, you didn't have to ask for help, it was given freely.

you know if you push down the brake some on the side that spinning it would engage the wheel that's not so it would turn both at the same time I had a old tractor like that well older tell the truth it works great to get unstuck

God's plan at work.

yes that what neighbours for I like that

Gotta love it, an Allis coming to the rescue of an Allis.

The Allis Chalmers tractor used to pull the other one is unusual. It looks like he has a propane and a gas tank. That gumbo dirt has tractor magnets in it. They are much stronger immediately after a rain. No fun in getting stuck, especially with a dead battery.

Been there and done that. It came out fairly easy. He knew better than to keep spinning the wheels after it got stuck. That's what neighbors are for, to look out for each other.

I love old iron

Nice that he had second tractor available and nice neighbors like you :) One of my guys tride to cross a shallow creek with a D3. Stupidly he tried to cross blade front and could not get the blade up the other side. He got the pan stuck in the mud trying to turn around. It was like pulling a plunger off the smooth floor. Took all of a D9 power to break the suction! The fun we have!

Yes, that's what neighbours are for...helping each other in times of need!! At a time in history when most people just drive on by when seeing a person stuck like your neighbour...its refreshing to see that a true neighbour is also a friend who stops to help . I know most country folk usually do help...but in bigger centers and cities...usually a person in need gets bypassed....except by those who live by the golden rule..."Do onto others as you would have them do onto you"!! Yes , treat others as you would want to be treated....which is exactly what you did here....so two thumbs up for a great video..highlighting the importance of caring for your neighbour. Take care friends.... : )
