Massey Ferguson, Tractor Tires, Box Scraper. We use the box scraper for various things on the homestead. Today we are cleaning up a bit around the pond and leveling the dirt. While we are there, papa pulls some loose sand and dirt out of the pond with the tractor. Because he is pulling dirt uphill, the rear tires spin easily so papa uses the steering brakes to help transfer power to the tire with the best traction. The front bucket is so heavy on the Massey Ferguson, papa removes it so he can get traction with the rear tractor tires to be able to pull the soil with the scraper. The scraper was damaged when it hooked on a stump and bent the back of the box. But it is what we have. It does have rippers on the box to cut into the sandstone if need be. Papa has an extra cutting edge for the box, but no welder to replace the cutting edge with. The Massey Ferguson tractor has some difficulty with the heavy, wet sand and clay in the pond, but papa knows how to get things moving anyway. It's always best not to allow the tires to spin as that causes excessive tire wear. Tires are expensive - it's really hard to find cheap tires - especially tractor tires. While it need not be a John Deere or Kubota, a tractor of almost any kind is almost a necessity on a homestead larger than an acre or two. And very handy even on a smaller homestead.
