MARS® is a software created by AGRICON International Inc. Woodstock, Ontario, Canada (agriconint.com). MARS® was created to enable agricultural researchers and managers of agricultural systems to better manage their work and plan and budget for annual field and station operations and streamline their implementation. MARS® is designed to create a flexible platform for agricultural research operations (projects and stations) and free both researchers and station managers alike from spending (and sometimes wasting) time on mundane yet important activities. MARS® is a research management tool that enables the institute directors and manages alike to streamline admin and field operations by cleverly linking the three sectors at the institute—administration, research and support services, and providing a holistic platform for effective and efficient management of all operations in the system. MARS® functions well on all types of research institutes and can serve national and international agricultural research systems. MARS® permits the user to • create the organizational structure of the institute and its regional research centers and stations. • allocate user privileges depending on the role they play in the institute. • create research programs and projects of all crops planted at the institute • select plots on the station utilizing a very intricate filtering (query) process. Items like area, soil type, preceding crops, nutrient levels, pH, yield, fallow, and others can be used as filters • prepare a realistic budget based on field operations, equipment and tractor used, etc. • to follow-up on operations planned for the year and ensure smooth implementation. • utilizes a digital image (GIS based) of the station to base all infrastructure and field related budgets. • prepare invoices to debit é credit accounts on the station account for operations. • prepare station maintenance projects and support service operations and build the station budget. • to plan and budget for all operations on the station including station maintenance and rehabilitation. • have a complete annual or cumulative plot history for every plot on every station • input historical data (if available before utilizing MARS® to populate the database. • manage station workshops through programing of all maintenance and repairs needs of field equipment, tractors and vehicles, • streamline station stores and station operations in order to have enhanced procurement strategies • work via internet on the "cloud" or by having the software installed on the institute / center/ station systems. MARS® is a must-have station management tool for all research institutes and stations. For more information about MARS® contact AGRICON at admin(at)agriconint.com AGRICON International Inc.
