Those look like 15mm or 20mm rounds for AA or for aircraft, or light tank/troop transport.

20mm FLAK I believe and from the later WW2 years (steel used later), though I could be mistaken. Is there a railway near the water course? That could give you a clue as to why they were there. Brilliant finds, well done!

Honestly doubt that is MG ammo...way to big to be for any MG. Not sure how much stuff is caked on them but it definitely seems to me to be a light anti-aircraft gun of some type...20mm?
