Machines | Level-2 High-Power Rocketry Certification Fail #3

In which I fail my level-2 certification flight for the 3rd time. You know how people always say "3rd time's the charm!" Well, that's just a bunch of bologna.

Have obtained your level 2 Cert yet? If so could you post a video of the launch?

Fly drogueless next time -- just let the separation drag do its job, and maybe use a slightly larger main chute if you think you need it (based on how light this one seems, you don't). You also need to figure out (ground testing, anyone?) why there was no separation at apogee, and need to check that the electronics bay is properly sealed. In your first failed L2 flight it looked like both charges fired together. Tons of good folks on rocketryplanet's forums that will help...

@gdjsky01 I disagree. Level 2 gives access to very powerful motors, up to L impulse, which you cannot fly just with motor ejection (they don't have it). L2 should really be a test whether you master the complexity of 2 stage recovery. Over here in europe we have so small fields that it is simply impossible to do L2 without 2 stage recovery.

@superrocketfreak Yeah, once I get my cert I'm going to try this rocket with two stages. Unfortunately I probably won't make it to the September launch. :(

@gdjsky01 Well, it doesn't really matter to me. I can continue to fly L2 in the form of certification attempts. It almost makes no difference. Also, I feel like the motors don't have enough charge. The motor's charge lit for this rocket and nothing budged, even though the connection was not tight at all. I haven't had much trouble with dual deploy in the past, so I'm not sure what happened here. Something funny with the altimeter. I'll have to look into it.

This is why I always advise people KISS. 3FNC with motor apogee deploy. Get yer cert THEN get fancy. JMO

Great photos of the build process! I have always liked the number 4.

Sorry about the no cert. Very nice up. Gonna try again in September?
