I’m enjoying watching you strip down this grand old lathe but haven’t commented before because I haven’t had anything to say until now. Actually something I noticed in the first episode that caught my eye is the location of the reversing switch, although it’s in a very convenient location I believe I would relocate it to a place less likely to get bumped. Or perhaps one could install a guard of some kind to prevent accidentally bumping it during lathe operations. Just my thoughts and of course I love your videos and am watching your progress with jealousy, wishing it were I cleaning that lathe.

them taper pins are no joke. going through my old southbend and didnt have too many problems until I tried to take the countershaft pulley off the shaft. lets just say it expedited was my first attempt at Tig welding cast aluminum.

To those who care. I have a hearing problem which makes it difficult sometimes to separate the background noise from the speakers voice. My choices are to ignore the background noise as much as possible, turn the sound off, stop watching. I will not stop watching. As I said, I have a problem. It's not Keith, the machine, the fan, or the rain. It's a defect in MY hearing. Keith, I greatly appreciate your videos. They help me understand and learn. Thank you very much.

On that bottom shaft did you not see the couler on the left end of the shaft?
Thanks for another great video Kieth! -
I do realize you're in Georgia and it's hot down there but insulating the shop will help out with that. Be quieter inside when it rains too.

Really enjoying this series, Keith! Keep it up!

Looks like your doing all this work just to make it look better, and that's ok too. Well you be doing anything to improve the working quality of the machine? I think she maybe beautifull but can she cook? I'm really looking forward to seeing the finish product! I enjoy your videos thanks much. ps staycool

.......firm believer in "if it aint broke, dont mess with it"........but in this case, replace the bushings in the gearbox regardless, if they have any play.......makes huge difference in the noise factor while running........for most not an issue, but for video production, and sound interference.....you'll be glad after you start using it.......easy to do as well. great work, Mr Rucker, keep the shows coming...........

I was thinking you could scrounge up a large shower pan and some Visqueen. Enclose the whole mess and have at it with a power washer.
Great new series. -
Looking forward to level legs, that's where I am . great video, no question here you do what ever it takes to get her done, thanks keith.

What happened- at 7 minutes you went back to removing the handles again?

Hey Keith, really enjoying this series. Not often you get to see the inside of a lathe, and I'm loving learning more about how they work.
Think I finally understand how engagement for threading works! Not black magic after all! -
Hi Keith! Have you ever used Evapo-Rust for rust removal. I made several videos on the use of the product you might find useful in your restoration projects. CHEERS

Saw a video on another lathe restoration and the guy used Citristrip for pain removal. Pretty cool and non toxic.
