Gale Banks doesn't want to "roll coal". He has built engines for race cars, land speed record holders, Pikes Peak climbing semi trucks, and military vehicles. He is one of the best engine builders in the world, and today he's going to explain the torque-full fuel that is diesel. Wrench smarter. Introducing a NEW series on /DRIVE, aimed at educating you to build a faster, better, more reliable car: /ENGINEERED. We want to empower our fellow enthusiasts to know more, and do more, by learning from some of the best engineers in the game.

How could diesel fuel increase lubricity with lower sulfur content? Sulfur is a lubricant, and a very good one, fuel systems (pumps, injectors) used to last much, much longer. Even new common rail fuel systems last much longer, and Banks should know this, they build the only US CR systems that can legally burn high sulfur fuel (the Military is exempt from emissions, even when on US highways). Modern Diesel fuel has much lower lubricity.

I'm got so much time to listen to this man. I don't even like cars.

Keep up the good work, sir. Love it...

talking about diesel with a gas 3.8l Chrysler engine behind him.
-
Finally! Thank you. Over fueling = heat and washed bores...

Keep up the good work, sir.

So if diesel is cleaner than petrol, why are a bunch of countries placing bans on diesel cars?
I guess it goes to show just how much some government bodies know about this stuff. -
my hero

Wish he did more with power strokes.

Not as technical as I hope, but still a good basic video!

What a great bloke, you'd buy an engine from him for sure.

I need a v6 challenger so I can cummins swap it.

This was a big help, as I'm getting my first diesel. Thank you

So basically, diesels can't knock because there is no such thing compression for them? Thats incredible. Think of how much boost you can put on your average cummins, you're just limited to the point of something breaking from heat/pressure.

so where can I buy all your talking about?
-
does diesel have vtec?

awsome
