Machines | Kioti NX6010 cutting new road through the woods of hunting land
videos | at work | information | view | construction
It has been dry for the last 4 or 5 days and once again, rain is in the forecast! So I took the Kioti beast to the newly cut narrow woods road to try and level some ruts and get some air drying the wet spots. As usual the Kioti performed admirably! The 4 in 1 bucket was very useful yet again.

If you ever see a tree trimming company around you might ask them to dump wood chips on your property near them trails. That would make a perfect trail.

You are in clay, next to impossible to build a useable road or path on. I know, my land is the same except my clay is blue. When clay dries it forms a very hard surface. When it's wet, it's a slimy mess. I have trails and a driveway just like yours. No matter how much gravel and rock I put on the driveway, a few years later it's back to clay, the rock just gets pounded in by traffic. To stabilize your driveway you need at least a foot of rock topped with gravel. At least you have a good drainage system there. For the woods trail you can not clear out a wet spot by grading it deeper. That just makes a hole for more water to collect. The only things you can do to improve it are to improve drainage with ditches, bring in some more material to raise the road surface, or lay logs side by side to form a corduroy road through the soft areas. Even then it will get muddy when it rains. The best bet for a lightly traveled trail is to get a layer of grass to grow over it and keep that mowed. That binds the surface with a layer of sod so that the tires don't penetrate into the clay as easily. Good luck, I feel your pain. At least you don't get thawing ground in the spring. The thaw turns the clay into pudding that won't hold anything. For me in Minnesota, that season lasts about 3 weeks or more in the spring.

Any time I do some road grading around the yard, I give the roads a quick rake job with the machine to get all the sticks, leaves, pine needles off....It makes a much nicer grade job as an end result....
