Machines | Kenmore washing machine- won't agitate (DIY, fix, replace)
videos | at work | information | view | construction
Clothes didn't seem to be getting clean lately. The washing machine appeared to complete cycles okay and there have been no odd noises or smells. While the load was starting, the agitator, in the middle, should have been pushing the clothes, but it just sat there. I noticed that the agitator would spin freely and started to disassemble it. I found small, worn, broken "agitator dogs" that a local appliance store had in stock for $5.95. Might get another few years out of this Lady Kenmore, Series 90, heavy duty, washer. Hope this can help you too!

if you don't clean the ground up pieces from the old dog ears out of the agitator you may have to replace them again over and over.

Exactly what was wrong with my Kenmore 70 Series. Thanks so much for your video!!!

Had similar problem with my kenmore 110.20902990 washing machine.
(spin cycle worked normally and water pump worked normally, but it would not agitate)
The problem was a bad contact point(s) in the timer. I took timer apart and inspected all contact points
and found that one set of points had a layer of whiteish oxide on them. I used my pocket knife and scraped the oxide layer off the points (easy) and put timer back together (a little tricky), reinstalled timer and the agitation cycle works normally again. One telltale sign on my timer was that one of the blades (where wiring harness plug plugs into timer was discolored from getting hot.
Hope this helps someone!
Good luck!

Thank you for this video! I have the exact washer and same problem with it as well. I'm glad it was just the small parts messing up.

I have the same model machine as your video.
I removed the bolt but am having a problem lifting the top agitator off.
You mention about putting it in neutral. I see that I need to replace the cracked dogs. -
Stephen, thanks for taking the time and effort to make this video! Extremely helpful, and saved me a bunch of time and money. Keep on making videos. I'm sure you've helped thousands of people!

Thanks for the video. This is exactly what was wrong with mine. FYI for others Home Depot/Lowes do NOT carry these types of parts. You'll have to go to an appliance repair/parts specialist store. Agitator dogs cost me $6 and my washer is working like new now.

Thanks for your video! Fixed my washer for $6.00!

My agitator assembly looks like it has a plastic locking cap over the dogs so I cant separate the agitator in two. any ideas? 12 year old whirlpool

awesome thanks! Got the dogs for 4.79 now I don't have to find room in the budget for a new washer.

wow, thanks for that tip! I just learned that ours is a 1991 Kenmore (Whirlpool). I used "appliance411/service/date-code.php" to discover the date. Great machine!
