Machines | Japanese Type 97 Tank Machine Gun
videos | at work | information | view | construction
http://www.forgottenweapons.com http://www.battlefieldvegas.com The Type 97 was a copy of the Czech ZB-26 machine gun which was used in early Japanese tanks and tankettes. It is chambered for 8mm Mauser, and uses standard ZB-26 20-round magazines. This particular one is in the collection of the owner at Battlefield Vegas, a machine gun rental range in Las Vegas. It is particularly cool because in addition to the gun, he has the mounting point cut out of a Type 35 tankette which fits the gun. Theme music by Dylan Benson - http://dbproductioncompany.webs.com

Could this have been used for infantry combat or was it only usable on armoured vehicles?
-
Why were the magazines on WW2 machine guns so small?
-
I'm actually surprised by how good some of the Japanese weapons were.
-
Where does the bayonet go?
-
Nice setup and what shockingly thin armor plate up front. A Boys antitank rifle round would have gone right through it.
-
That looks like a mount from a type 95, not 97

I learn so much from a lot of unusual an obscure weapons. Please do more Japanese weapons, and thank you for all the great videos. ;)

Considering this design probably predates WWII (before 1937), it shows that a great deal more thought was given to their tank designs. It's a shame there was no war to really highlight how excellent IJA tanks were, instead, they were often thrown up against vehicles that were sometimes a whole decade ahead of them. All of that spaced, super-high-hardness armor and nifty machine guns wouldn't help much...

It seems that with such a wide view that you'd get parallax errors with the scope, making sighting a pain.

brass flying to the side in a vehicle; been there, done that (an exercise, I was in an SUV playing a terrorist attacking a checkpoint (I was riding "shotgun", though I actually had an assault rifle, we would approach the checkpoint, then suddenly we'd start shooting blanks while aiming at the men guarding the checkpoint), the guy sitting behind me didn't appreciate the hot brass, nor did the driver appreciate the brass coming from behind him.

what a find and a very nice video explaining it

Would be more fun this channel if you shoot the guns you Review.
-
I wish i could install this in my House Door ;) a other type of Door Spy hehe

These were the first guns chambered in 7.7

The tank this gun was taken from was a Type 95 Ha Go light tank.
These guns were also used on almost every japanese tank design, with few exceptions. -
review the Type 11....
-
It had box mags and not belt fed..what a crap design. Why would they refrain from using belts when the vehicle would be carrying the extra weight.
-
I suppose those other people in the room would have been upset if you had test fired it for this vid.

Very Interesting Ian
It similar to what the British did for their Tank Machine guns during WW2
They too looked to a CZ design (the ZB 53) and decided that changing the ammunition to .303 was too difficult and so produced a direct copy and called it the BESA also in 8mm Mauser.
Would be interesting to see one of those in action
