videos | at work | information | view | construction
Japanese Naval Type 1 Flexible Aircraft Gun, manufactured by Imperial Japanese Navy's Yokusuka Arsenal in 1944, this is an all original bring-back trophy gun, C&R Amnesty gun. Caliber 7.92 x 57mm (8mm). The Type 1 gun is an exact copy of the German Rheinmetall-Borsig MG15 aircraft gun, made under wartime license agreement. This particular speciment is completely original and fires approximately 1200-1330 rpm with surplus ammunition. It is shown though with a German shoulder stock, for shooting purposes here.

Oh man I wish more of the Japanese bombers used this instead of the awful Navy Type 92 lewis in War Thunder.

Nice Japanese version of German MG-15 design (with addition of the fore-grip). From what I understand, it does not have a quick change barrel despite its high rate of fire. It was originally designed as an aircraft mounted gun. I guess while in the air, the cold wind constantly blowing across the barrel was enough to keep it cool during firing. Due to a machine gun shortage among German ground troops, the design was later modified with new sights, bipod, heat shield, sling, and stock for infantry role. But the lack of quick change barrel (or some other cooling method) is a huge negative for a ground machine gun with such a high rate of fire. Still a very nice looking gun though.

Powerful.

Also I could imagine that in a dogfight having to swap out those mags would get pretty darn tiring! Being an mg15 gunner in a schnellbomber or something would really be a crappy job.

is that the thing they were bitching about on red jacket?

German Air Force mg..... Not japanese!!!!!!!!!!!

I always found the MG15 type weapons to be exceptionally controllable, but I tend to prefer the water cooled Luftwaffe pattern weapons for fire sustainability.
-
may I ask can these function with the MG13 magazine? By the way its a fine looking weapon,Good luck with it ck

look like alient gun

Thank you for correcting me, I havent taken time to read up on WW2 era Imperial Japanese weaponry.

Hah hah, it's a good thing it didnt come out in time to replace the type 100 woodpecker!

A very cool gun indeed. Just maybe not the best gun for personal protection of an airplane. But better than nothing. Found a new life helping the German ground troops. Faded away to obscurity after it had no more use.

Beautiful! The addition of the MG15 ground mount stock coupled with the Type 1 foregrip look to have made this a very stable and easily controllable setup. Looks and shoots great!!
