is the split option used after 8 speed or before it as well??
-
shit you explain it so perfect never driven a truck before coz im 15 and I just drove and 18 speed gearbox and did it really good nice instructions
-
you lost me when you reved up to go down the gears cause from my short experience driving tractors you let it rev down before down gearing
-
can ya go up & down in overdrive without using clutch like shifting down & up

where does the prostitute murdering come into play?

I only really disagree with one part of your method. When coming to a complete stop - coming up to a set of lights, don't pull it out of gear and coast to a stop. If you need to get moving in a hurry for some reason e.g. get out of the road to let an emergency vehicle through, you won't be able to move until you stop, use the clutch brake and get in a gear. It is good practise to leave it in gear say 5th until your revs drop below 1,000 then apply the clutch half way, come to a stop with the brake and then pull it into neutral, range selector down, clutch out, clutch in and in to low gear of choice - usually 3rd. I don't do the on the throttle off the throttle method with splitting either. I clutch briefly when splitting. And as for floating gears, yes it works most of the time but when it doesn't, it absolutely causes excessive wear on the sliding clutches in the transmission. If you stuff up badly, you can shock load the main shaft and cause other damage. Double clutching removes that risk. It's that simple. I'm not saying there aren't people out there who can float gears all day every day and never have a problem. Good luck to them. It doesn't represent the pinnacle of driving ability.

Very useful video. Because I wanted to be a trucker :)

what a pain in the arse is this? Imagine driving one of these near a city.. who the hell designed these gear boxes really.? far out mate.
-
does this work the same way as rev matching in a manual sports or race car?
-
do you have to double clutch when downshifting
-
Damn steering wheel is on the wrong side of the truck !!! WTF ???
-
all car drivers who pull out infront of lorrys should watch this and see how much of a pain in the arse it is for a lorry to slow down and get back up to speed...this video should be on all driving tests to make people realise.. good work mate

they threw me in a 13spd a couple years ago and I saw the little red switch. So I shifted like normal and kept wondering why it wouldn't go past 55 in 10th gear. at the end of the night I asked the normal driver what it was for and he gave me the scoop... since then drove a similar rig and hag no problem. and now wish I could run it on regular basis.

Eaton Fuller??

Thanks dude that was bloody helpful. I get what you're saying too about the not so nice changes. It sounds like sheering or what I call sheering. I notice it in my 96 triton. If you rush the changes it doesn't sound nice. But I do notice that, I'll tell the whole story, Michael Schumacher goes "never push a car beyond what it can handle" and I was driving my car a little rough too soon. When I worked with the car and what it was, what it was giving me, I noticed the car would perform very nicely once it had got rolling. It just became smooth because I wasn't forcing my car.
