HERE IS ANOTHER VIDEO..how this automatic transmission shifts while actually driving - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMld6YD9Ci4&list=UU50pn0ehvilKKJjBKrFaS4A This video above describes how a new DT-12 automatic transmission functions in Semi Trucks Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo, and Freightliner, etc.

Cory when u pull the lever up the gears go up
-
Can you repeat that one more time, lol
-
I love your explanations man,you are a good teacher!

Technology really can be great. With an automatic, you also have more time to concentrate on steering your vehicle. And when you're hauling around an 80,000 LB rig, that becomes very important. Really nicely done video.
-
when your going down hill how do u keep the truck from changing gears on the automatic say if u want to go 35mph not sure what gear that is on automatic but from my understanding the truck will keep shifting up as it feels truck is going faster
-
hey man just to correct u the engine brake is operated by another switch this lever is for the Retarder theres a switch on the dash that looks like a plum of cloud thats the Engine brakes
and if its wrong then probally im used to the SCANIA Opticruise 2 system where the things i mention applies -
what speed do you need to be in on each push on the engine brake?
-
I like the gears yeah but you got a million points on this one! it's so true one needs these automatics to rest poor tired legs after 2000 miles of drive man seriously! i love it just awesome! my trucking life made easy ! 😍 thanks for sharing !
-
man u make seem easy I always wanna learn too drive truck

Very informative video! Have you driven a automatic with clutch? I've noticed they are quite common in Europe but not sure if they are used over in the US.
-
you over the road guys don't even shift gears lol. you just stay in high gear all day long and still need an auto.
-
how uses a clutch driving smart in traffic with a manual no need for clutch
-
The Freightliner I was driving really didn't know how to shift, it started in 1st no matter what, would not idle for more than 5 mins, and would go into neutral when you lifted off the fuel pedal when the Jake was off...scared the crap out of me when it did that. Granted, the tractor only sipped fuel even when I was loaded heavy...63-73 gals. to run 560mi. In the Tx. hill country. (SAN to ELP)

thank you sir for this video.
my question when you go downgrade you need to shift down manual or you just keep the transmission on auto position with engine brake on ? -
how much is a full tank of gas in a semi

I'm new to trucking and l know there's a big difference between a car and truck transmission but shouldn't Mr. Fuller mirrored the shifting pattern for truck transmissions. I mean, first gear should be in the upper left corner instead of its current position....works for my Chevy Camaro SS.

hey nice video and GREAT transmission I will agree!! I got mine right about the same time at you August 14, 2014 I believe was my maiden voyage. I would like to point out a couple things you said it's a 13 speed and it's a 12. (DT12 stands for Detroit Transmission 12 speed) Also the engine brake switch works just a little different than how you described. Most importantly it also tells the transmission how to react and shift. The first setting (click) is low engine brake. It only has low and high I'm not sure if it's 2 and 6 cylinders or 4 and 6 cylinders but it doesn't have medium. The second setting (click) changes to the highest engine braking and also more than likely will initiate a down shift especially if you move it slow and let in remain on the first click for a few seconds it may just go to high braking but not down shift. The last setting (click) will be high engine braking and will aggressively down shift as quickly as it can even accelerating the rpm to 2200

Why can't Freightliner take a drive on a volvo Ishift for one day and make a similar transmition? This transmition does not work that well. If you keep it on automatic and going downhill, it will start downshifting all the way down to 3rd if you let it. You would have to put it on Manual mode in order to keep the steady speed and to control the RPM.
I have been driving a 2016 cascadia and I do not like it at all. The engine brake does not work as well on manual mode as on automatic.
Volvo ishift if you put it on 10th to go downhill, it will stay on 10th , you just have to stab brake a little whenever the rpm is going up too much, but it will stay on the same speed all the way down until you give it order to change. And it is the same on manual mode as automatic mode.
Man! I love volvos, automatic specially.
Freightliner is making a self driven truck already and they have not even gotten the auto transmition right.

I only use the clutch to take off and Eaton is already expensive so I can't imagine what this will cost when it all goes wrong. I'm not closed minded, I'm just old fashion and just like with new car's, if I can't work on it I don't want it. Waiting for ur next video because I do like technology to a point and thanks for the video.

Does anyone make an engine brake system that can lock to a specific speed, like cruise control?
