It does seem like roadwork projects drag on in the US.
It's a cliche of DOT workers hanging out with one guy working and the rest just watching. -
All you complainers should have a look at other countries and soon you will quit your WINING ! Not only did they built this 'underpass' in 80 hrs it also PISSED rain to beat old hell. dr. Al

A similar feat has been executed near to my living place 5 months ago.
A 4 lane tunnel for a new road has been built on a site adjecent to a railway embankment where it had to go under.
Then in one weekend the rails and catenary had been taken away, the embankment dug out, the tunnel moved in place, and the embankment and railway reinstated.
On monday 6:20AM the first train crossed over the new tunnel.
That operation had to be planned in detail, the construction of the tunnel structure itself took 5 months, but it was a much larger tunnel as shown in this video. -

Excuse my nagging, but they didn't build it actually, they just moved the already finished tunnel to it's final position. Oh and it is only half of the tunnel. ;-)
I know it's about keeping the traffic going, and that goal is achieved. -

Yes, planning and engineering are indeed noteworthy but we also use another novel approach. It's called "working". In other countries I have witnessed a somewhat relaxed if not to say bone idle approach to doing a job. Especially executing public works like building roads, bridges and waterways.

I used to get annoyed by all the road construction going on in The Netherlands, but this is amazing. I always felt like no work was done at all, because it always takes ages, but doing all this work in just one weekend!

In GErmany it would take over 5 years and they still would not be ready.

That is a nice one, but some things do take years. Like the new metro line from north to south Amsterdam. The plan was first heard in 1968, in 1996 thay started seriously thinking about it, in 1999 they agreed to build it, in 2003 they started building it.... and they're still working on it, now they say it should be done in 2018. It's literally an attraction in Amsterdam to go look at it being built.

This doesn't work in America because it's harder for the workers to get a good education, making well educated workers harder to find, and therefore more expensive.

Yeah, we may build at awesome speed, but there are least 20000 meetings, 40000 opinions and 100000 alterations "necessary" before we get ever this far.

Where I live in the US they have been working on the same stretch of highway for over 10 years. Route 95 in Philadelphia
