Patrice Banks is an automotive technician who set out to change the face of the automotive industry by building a company around car buying and repair services for women. Fed up with not knowing anything about her own vehicle, Ms. Banks established Girls Auto Clinic (GAC). GAC provides interactive vehicle operation and service workshops that give women practical advice on maintaining and caring for their cars. Ms. Banks previously worked for more than 12 years as an engineer, manager, and leader at DuPont. I hate to say learning about internal combustion engines was a waste of time, but it was. It's nearly 2017, and we should be focusing on electric vehicles instead of how to maintain antiquated technology.

why focus all the attention on women ? any person who has no interest at all for mechanics or any other subject could be ripped of by a mechanic or any other professional in any subject, that's to say, if I don't know anything about plumbing, I will probably be ripped off too, if I dont investigate the issue before hand.. unnecessary to be pulling the feminist card on this..

You raise red flags with me. You said you put yourself through auto tech school and didn't say what you did after that. I am a ASE certified tech with about 3-4 years of shop wrench time. Did you work in a shop to gain some experience? The main thing I have trouble with is when you said it's no longer 3 months with motor oil; that's actually still true for conventional oil; synthetics however about once a year. The reason behind that is because conventional oil is still pretty dirty after it's been refined for engine use and the additive package will separate after about 3 months of being in your engine. Synthetics are completely different and don't break down as easily and the additive package (detergents and other things that make it do it's job) doesn't separate easily. But I on a more personal point think it's a good idea for more women in the field of automotive repair. So I hope you inspire more ladies to pick up a wrench, the number one thing I hear the girl I am talking to about her ride of why she's not a tech is she didn't want to get her hands all dirty, the second most common one is they have a man in their life that tells them what they need. Up here in Canada if you want to be an auto mechanic you have to get a shop to hire you and work for several months before you're allowed to go to school for a few weeks, then you have to make sure you still have that job or you don't get to go back for your second block of a few weeks of training the next year, or the year after that or the year after that.
I like the apprenticeship program, but it's been tough to break down gender barriers in non-traditional industries, that's for sure. -

I think what you are trying to accomplish is great. I am trying to establish and start a business for women who have served time and need to rise upon their situations by alllowing them to work in a field they have experience in and developing their self respect as well as getting up and over the government bull that keeps them from becoming an active member of society so they can move forward.God forgives why cant we. I am working on getting a female mechanic shop operated and ran by female offenders. I am in Phoenix Arizona and would be interested in seeing how many females out there would like to become part of this program. Also once established will be setting up an all female racing team in honor of my mother and father who did not believe in the word cant and never ever made their children feel like failures even if whatever we were trying to accomplish suceeded or not.

It is inspiring, and amazing, and she sell her idea quite right. I just ask, isn't this positive discrimination? what if a guy wants to go the shop? Guys can get ripped off too, and may want to know too. I REALLY love this idea but I would like it more if it was less woman only.
