How Does Engine Oil Protect Your Engine? How Does It Work? How Do Engine Lubrication Systems Work - Sponsored By Pennzoil Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 Engine oil is used for several purposes: to reduce friction in your engine, which reduces power losses and increase efficiency, to reduce wear by limiting metal on metal contact, and to remove contaminants from your engine. The engine oil starts in the engine sump, or oil pan, where it is sucked up through the pick-up tube to the oil pump, which then sends the oil through the oil filter. After passing through the filter, it travels to the various engine systems, including the crankshaft, pistons, and valvetrain. It then channels to oil return passages, where it begins the cycle again after dumping into the oil pan. Don't forget to check out my other pages below! am I wrong in mentioning that oil also serves to absorb heat. not so much radiate it as coolant, but disperse it more evenly around the engine.

+Engineering Explained What keeps oil from leaking past the cam shaft and through the valves into the combustion chamber? Is there an O-ring around the valve?
-
In a typical engine lubricating system, there's a lot of oil sitting in the oil pan. Then why car makers seldom put some fin on the oil pan to help cool the oil, even on some high power car? This seems to be a very easy and straight-forward way to do the job. They rather use oil cooler with somewhat complex oil route, why?

Thanks so much man.
I've been wondering how this system works recently, and trying to get a mental image of it.
Thanks a lot for making this video, I love all your videos and you explain everything really well. -
You should have explained why it's bad to overfill your oil, like what it does to the motor.
-
As far as the cooling properties of oil cooling goes, it may be hard with your sponsors but I'd really enjoy it if you'd talk about some of the differences that other formulae have - for example, its well known (and actually documented) that running an oil like Royal Purple on the track will result in measurably cooler oil temperatures than something like a Mobile One. Same with viscosity - of course, thicker will be cooler, but you run into tolerance limits there too.
-
I always change the oil every 3k kilos, or if too late on 4k. The milleage of the engine is 140k km. And still run smoothly.
-
Hy can u plz explain the use and working of valve
-
I don't know if you made a video about Wet Sump vs Dry Sump oil systems, but I'd like to see a video explaining the two, and their advantages.
-
most engines have gear direct driven pumps on the crank snout or driven by a distributor back in the older engine.

I was just talking to a friend today who told me about something that sounded more like an oil control solenoid which had these valves to judge an intake pressure and regulate the output pressure of oil from the pump...he was saying this was done to help with fuel efficiency for the motor. What I just wrote down isn't exactly what he was saying but it is what my understanding of what he was trying to explain to me. Does anyone know what he might be talking about and would you be willing to explain it for me? His vehicle is a second gen Hyundai Santa Fe

The oil pump is generally driven by the crankshaft, not a belt. 😉

make a video about warning up a car in the winter. is it bad for the car or doesn't it matter

Hi again Jason thank you for doing the cold car start vid I asked for, it was very helpful, I have an other question.
If the car sits a month or so than attempting to start it is going to cause damage? Brcausr all the oil will sitbat the bottom oil seamp.? -
excuse me. in some part of my country there is a myth "hit the throtle before turning off the engine" i mean, rev the engine before turing it off. i heard there will be wear issues bcz of the oil doesnt flow well bcz of this action.. but i still didnt get the logic. plz answer it on ur new video Mr. Jason, Thank you so much!

Man i'm a huge fan of S2000's. I have an 07 and would love to see/hear anything and everything you have to say about them. i love your videos. i've been a mechanic for about 8 years and your videos have been so much easier to understand than all 4 years i spent in school. You'er doing great work keep it up!

I have noticed that some oil filters are advertised for longer oil change intervals than others. Is there any real difference in how oil filters are made that could improve the interval on them or is this just a marketing trick?
-
Its really good that you have begun to provide subtitles in your videos; it really helps.
Your ways of explaining the concepts is really commendable. I got many of my doubts cleared via your videos. Keep it up dude :) -
I was looking around and I don't think you've done a video on what a trans-brake is and how it works, I think that would be a pretty cool idea, as I'm looking to build a street/strip truck soon and was wanting a transbrake and you're channel is always the one I go to when I need detailed information on anything car related.

keep doing what you're doing
