Machines | Hotchkiss Portative Disassembly
videos | at work | information | view | construction
Today we have a British Hotchkiss Portative machine gun in ,303 caliber to look at. These were used by everyone on the Allied side in WWI, and were a reliable and effective gun, if not the simplest design. This Hotchkiss Portative is fully transferrable and currently for sale by Spotted Dog Firearms in Cave Creek AZ. If you are interested in owning it yourself, please contact Steve Hill at 602-538-2769.

The French invent it but other countries used it too.

So much metal for no reason. This is what cutting edge 1900s weaponry looks like. Madsen crushes this daily.
-
Just how good was it back in the day?
-
Hey Ian, do you think you could redo this in a higher video quality?
-
Ian, do you ever go to costume parties dressed as lenin?
-
I think in the dark with bullets flying at you. You would be better off using that piston and bolt carrier as a club then trying to put this back together.
-
That is an odd duck

Anyone have any info on the production numbers for the .303 version? All I have been able to find is that they were made by Enfield but can't find any info on exactly how many were made by the British.
-
those lugs look like the lugs on a ross 303 as well

Man, the French liked to overbuild their guns. Couple things jumped out at me. One, no tools needed to take it apart which is good. Two, relatively few parts that were built to last.
What are your thoughts on the Hotchkiss action's tendency to rip cases? -
This is one of those things I would need to practice over and over and over and over and over in order to do it with good lighting in enough time to engage the enemy.
-
You mean with an internal magazine or loaded directly from an inserted clip? Fun idea
-
Holy mother of god some of these early machine rifles are massive
-
does the US benet mercie have belt capability fed like this one?
-
Do you have any gifs/videos slowed down or simplifying the action. I was looking to create a modern SMG that is fed by similar brass clips and i have a vague idea as to how it works, it would just make my life that much easier lol.
-
and you expect people to be able to do this in 30 seconds
-
When we have the chance to, yes.
-
thanks for answer! Keep making such wonderfull videos! Respects from Spain
-
