With this Hotchkiss, my grandfather shooted 18000 cartridges in half an hour at Verdun, using the three barrels in dotation (he had special gloves to change them as they became red-hot). It was a day of german attack ; they were 3 machine guns which shooted at a range of 2000 m. At the end, they broke the german offensive . None of these three had an operating incident.

you do NOT want to stand on the right side of that MG!

cant go wrong with a Hotchkiss.

Is this a M1914 hotchkiss machine gun.

What calibre is the Norwegian version?

Got my first instruction on the Hotchkiss today. A very simple gun and easy to learn. It is air cooled and gas operated . The stoppages on the gun are very simple. It works on the order of the Lewis Gun. In the afternoon we were taken to the machine gun range. Everybody had a chance to fire the gun. Myself didn’t like it as good as the Vickers. From My Daddys WW1 diary in the 109MGB.

My grandpa fired one like this, and said it was very reliable.

très bonne machine la Hotchkiss

@izzy1948 The version used by the French Army is in 8 mm Lebel, indeed. That one featured above, I don't know for sure. Maybe a different version, specially made for export.

mexico used it in it revolution not independance

@colddrake80 if you look closely there is a guy sitting on kne the the left of the gunner...feeding the gun.. the bag is just a ww2 type bag as this was a WW2 "reenactmentshow" displaying several guns used by the norwegians in 1940 during the invasion of Norway in april 1940

Very neat video. I like these old machine guns thanks for posting. I'm a little confused though. Does this machine gun use a hopper that holds several stripper clips? Also what kind of pack are you wearing?
