This is a Case thresher purchased by my great-great grandfather, Jacob L. Hoesly, and his brothers Andrew and David of New Glarus, WI in 1888. My Uncle John saw the thresher at the annual Threshing and Antique Show in Freeport, IL last year, so my dad and I went down to look at it this year. According to a sign by the thresher, the Hoesly family used it for 56 years. It was powered by horses for 26 years, a one cylinder Stover gas engine for 26 years, and a tractor for four years. Another sign states that the Hoesly threshing record was 900 bushels after dinner one day. The gentleman with the light blue shirt who's feeding oats into the machine is Robert Lamm. (He'll be 100 years old in February!) Mr. Lamm restored the machine about 35 years ago. It's currently owned by the Stephenson County (IL) Antique Engine Club.

I saw that drive axle going over to the horses and joked to myself, "Oh, horse-powered." but you are saying it could actually run that way. Wow. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for coming to see it and Thanks for posting the video. Great to see family members come out to see their distant relatives equipment in use and be able to show it to their kids so they can see more of their family history. So much better than just seeing a picture in the family photo album.

Thanks for posting! We were reading about horse drawn threshing in the book "Old Sam, Dakota Trotter". Without much experience with wheat or threshing, it was hard to build a picture in our minds. After Google image was a bust, the 7yr old said "look for it on youtube!" To my surprise, but not his, we found what we were looking for!
